How To Remove Trans Oil Pan?

So I am not a complete idiot but whilst lying under said ride a gorgeous 1969/71 350/350 true short box GMC 2WD I realized one may need to move the transmission crossmember out of the way to get to the rear 2 bolts on the transmission oil pan in order to drop said pan.

Man, I thought... them TV car drama shows never show that, they just go bzzz bzz , ha ha and the next thing you know their trans pan is in their hands.

So my question is, is that how it be on these trucks or do I have a non OEM cross membrane on mine?

I will upload a pic after I have some scrambled eggs here this mornin'.

When I removed mine I was able to use a jointed socket extension to get in on those. My crossmember is stock. However, the previous owner elected
To leave the manual trans crossmember in the truck so we had to unbolt the trans and lift it slightly using a 4x4 on end on the fork of a small forklift. Fortunately we have a lift so the truck was up high to do this.

I've never had to touch the crossmember, just got after a couple of the bolts with an end wrench instead of a socket.

I use a short socket and an extension with the “Swivel” tip. It clears the crossmember just enough to access the bolts.
