Nicely done all wood flatbed?
 

So Im close to bringing my ex motor home 1971 Cheyenne Super C30 home. I actually purchased it to part out, but Ive sold, and am selling the projects I was going to use the parts for. Its a 157 inch WB and I will not be shortening it. Oldiron, Dennis has one of these that I really love, but yikes he spent some cash on having the beautiful tilting flat bed built for it.

Before I spend the dollars on a steel tilting flatbed I thought I would build an all wood flatbed (hopefully nicely done lol) just to see how much actual use it would get. Might end up being one of those (many) things I think are really cool, but in the end just don't really use. Not looking to purchase a steel bed off of Craigslist. I would really like to see if I can build one myself.

I did a few searches but didn't really come up with any good nicely drawn up plans type things for building a home made flat bed out of all wood. Does anyone have any insights or places to look to help me get a start on this?

I put a flatbed on my longbed to use while I fixed my rusty bedsides. I haven't changed it back because its so useful. I built it out of 4x4 base with 1x6 top boards. Its been real useful. Its not even close to well done but it will give you an idea.

One thing I found was lower the better. I cut up my old wheel wells for fenders, so the bed would drop below the tires, kind of a step side flat bed.

There is a sweet wood bed with an inlayed punisher or skull n bones design on the internet somewhere. Id love to see detailed pics of that one. I cant find it anywhere now.

One thing I want to do is keep the whole thing flat with no raised areas. So its going to be a little taller than I had wanted. Something I don't want to do is have to purchase any new drivetrain parts. So Ill be keeping the little bit narrower rear axel it comes with and not stepping up to a wider one. The wider one would allow for a lower bed height and the ability to be able to lay in 4' x 8' sheets of whatever in there.

Thanks for the pics of yours, it gives me a start. There are a lot of photos on pinterest that came up when I did a search, but now I have to join pinterest to look at more than just the thumbnails.

If you make the deck out of 1 1/2" thick lumber, you can cut out the area over the wheels and replace it with a sheet of diamond tread steel or the like to be able to make it all 1 1/2" lower than if you had wood over the wheels.

I actually went way out there today and actually joined pinterest and Instagram to better search for the truck stuff I look for. Never wanted to go there, but ....

...Hey!...another Solidworks user.
Glad to see there are a few of us out there.

Very nice work there....any pics of the final/finished item on the truck?

This is a model I did up for a project a few years ago....mostly for depictive reference reasons for a more major layout.

Not mine. Found the pics in a Ford forum.
Autocad is as far I got in my education.
Solidworks was still in its infant stage when I went to school.
