Glove box differences AD

I see that the cardboard glove boxes sold list a box for 47-49 and then 50-53, what the heck would be the difference?

New one on me Searching shows that the 47/49 has square corners while the 50/53 has rounder corners.

It looks like they mount a bit different too. 12.95 for either one from Classic parts. Should be the same from any of the truck trinket vendors.

I wonder how the heck they are really different other than looks, they both mount to the same dash, huh?

They are confusing me now! LOL

Having never actually had one of these cardboard glove boxes, do they hold up ok?

Or should a guy design something out of metal before his dash is painted?

I had a metal one for years, one problem with the cardboard one is it doesn't nearly as deep as it could be. So you could add another 50% of space by making one.

I cut the dash out of the one 49 cab I have to send to someone Not sure if I have the glove box side or not to look at and compare with the 51 cab a few feet away.

The 47-49 uses a metal retainer with screws to hold the glovebox in . You will need that. The 50-53 does not.

Also the 47-49 uses a different glove box door hinge than the 50-53 . The repo guys all sell the 50-53 style hinges saying one size fits all . They do not! Wonder how many frustated buyers pulled their hair out over the years.

Thanks

OMG that sounds interesting! I have hinges, including ones I chromed. I think I do remember seeing that retainer, a strip of metal about a half inch wide that went all the way around the opening with a little gap at the top where the striker is, does that sound about right?

The dash is the same though right? I believe my hinges I have are 50-53 as that is what the cab was I got them from. This cab, not so sure but I think it's a 50.

Ok Paul, is this the early cab or the late? The door striker tells me it's early, am I right? How about the dash where the glove box door hinge mounts, early or late?

You have the late style cab . Order the late style glove box . You will not use the metal retainer.

Thanks

Right? Yeah, I have have known this years ago, it's like the windlace, the early cab has a metal trim that goes over it, that goes right along with that strip of metal that goes around the outer edge of the glove box on the early one, I do remember seeing that but had forgotten. It's good to learn stuff huh!

Yep it's all in the little details.

I spray painted the out side to the cardboard box on mine to give it a little more moisture proofing. Seems to work on inside of door and roof panels as well.
