Vent window to door seal - inside or outside?

Hey all - I’m replacing the vent windows on my 76 with some replacements from LMC. The overall fit is good but I have a question about there lip seal. Should it be inside or outside the door frame? See the pictures below. First picture is the new window with the seal pulled outside. Second picture is the original passenger window and the seal is tucked inside. There’s was evidence on the driver door paint that it was outside... I didn’t pay attention on disassembly. Thanks!

Well dang! When I installed my vents I made sure to spread the rubber seal out and lay it over the metal down the front side and across the bottom. So all of that was supposed to be tucked in behind the metal? Might explain why I'm still getting wind noise and a leak when it rains.

Could be why. Mine quieted down a ton. The wind noise was so loud on the highway, we had to talk real loud to hear each other over the wind noise.
