Head Gasket Install
3 Attachment(s)
Hello all, Im about to install my head gaskets and noticed that the new head gasket is different from the old. Its an LQ4 engine bored .030 over, with flat top pistons, and a LS6 cam. Is this the correct head gasket? Pics. 1st pic is bare block, 2nd pic is with the old gasket and last is with new gasket.

Re: Head Gasket Install
As long as the gasket isn't blocking a needed hole, or lacking gasket on a sealing surface, you should be fine. The GM LS9 gasket is a favorite IMO.

Re: Head Gasket Install
So the new gasket looks like it is blocking off the water ports to the head. Got these gaskets in a rebuild kit and everything else fits just fine. Is this a new design gasket? Just trying to verify that this will work and not be a problem.

You need to have those water ports open. I think I would be tempted to buy different gaskets as yours dont look right.
The hole is there in the black layer but blocked off by another layer it looks like. Here is a picture of a GM gasket, it shows the water ports that should be open. |
Re: Head Gasket Install
I agree. I'm buying new gaskets to be sure

Re: Head Gasket Install
Looks to me you have it on upside down on that side . Those open ports are in the rear of the block . Flip it over and put those opening to the rear of the engine and I would bet it would fit .

Re: Head Gasket Install
Gasket is backwards

Re: Head Gasket Install
No matter which way I put these on, they still cover up the water passages. New ones arrive tomorrow. We shall see how those come in. Thanks again for the support.
