Door hinges

I need some door hinges for the 54. I've been looking at Classic, LMC, Eckler's and Tucker.

Does anyone know if there is a difference in the products?

I know the price ranges from $300 to $395, depending on which vendor.

I've been trying to fund used, but of the 6 I have, I could rebuild 2, maybe 3 at best, and they wouldn't be great where the skinny metal is on the inside of the truck

Re: Door hinges

Are they all the same from 47-54? I have about 6 of them with them all being rebuildable. But honestly, I would be looking for original ones, forget reproduction. Unless someone comes on and tells you of a brand that they got and worked, stay away from reproduction.

Here's a "Basics of Basics" I did on the subject.

Re: Door hinges

I've read "stay away from reproduction" on here.

The problem is I don't have 4 rebuildable hinges. I had to cut one to get it out of the cab. Two have the skin metal broken. So I'm looking for someone who will sell me 4 that I can rebuild if I can find them.

Re: Door hinges

I have it on good authority that if I knew what to call the "inside skin" on the cab side of the door hinge that I could buy just that piece if I can't find rebuidable hinges.

So if anyone knows of a supplier for the "skin" on the hinge, I would like to know.

They call it the "face plate."

Re: Door hinges

Thank you Brian. I can fix 3 of the four hinges.

Now to find that elusive lower driver's side door hinge.

I had to cut it up to get it out and now I need a replacement.

I made a metal buck to press new hinge face for mine. I think there's a picture in my build thread.

NorCal, now I have to go through your whole build thread. That is really great work. Thanks.

Re: Door hinges

After rebuilding my own hinges. I highly recommend sending your hinges to this guy
http://drjsrestorationrx.com/

He makes the hinge face plates the Filling Station sells. He may also have the hinge you're looking for.

If you choose to do them yourself, he also has a "how to" video on Youtube.

Re: Door hinges

Got the hinge apart and took the face plate off.

Then I welded the flange back to the hinge base. I had to cut it off to get to the hinge pin to cut it out. I bet I spent 30 minutes fitting it together before I finally welded it up.

Now it is slicked up.

I even test fit it in the door jamb to make sure the holes lined up.

Re: Door hinges

Ha, now to see if I can get the pins out of the other 3 hinges.

A big thank you to Jan! I'm going to have new face plates on the hinges, once I get them apart and rebuilt.

Re: Door hinges

Is it possible to just bolt the new face over the old hinges?

8man 09-15-2018 06:36 PM

Re: Door hinges

The face plates are spot welded on in 3 places. So the new ones will be spot welded as well.

Under stood but Could the plates just be bolted on via the hinge bolts?

Re: Door hinges

I guess, but then you would have another adjustment to do when you adjust the hinge. Might make that a little more difficult.

Re: Door hinges

Thanks. My so called "restorer" destroyed my plates trying get door aligned and I don't have a spot welder. Hardly a day goes by and i find another major FU they did.

Look what NorCalGal sent me! They are so nice that I think I'll frame them.

But since I need them to use my door hinges, I guess I'll have to put them on the truck. I sure hope the truck turns out as nice as the hinge plates.

Thanks Jan!
