Anyone with a 73-80 tucked up their front or rear bumpers
Wondering if anyone has tucked them a little closer to the body, how you did it, and if you have any pictures?

Re: Anyone with a 73-80 tucked up their front or rear bumpers
I've been considering a tuck on my 75 Jimmy. I determined the job would require a lot of re-fab of the original mounts. It almost would be easiest to change the location where the mounts bolt to the bumper. OK, then if you do that why not eliminate the bolts altogether and weld studs inside the bumper and get a nice smooth look. Then I thought if you're doing all this and replating the bumpers, why not cut and narrow them as you could pull the ends much closer to the body for an ever smoother look.
That was 4 years ago. Still thinking about it. |

I came to the conclusion that I would leave the factory bumpers exactly how they came--factory! If it was a simple matter of slotting holes, that's one thing.

The back is easy.
The front is a bit more work. |

Chromaholic's "Off it goes" thread includes some front bumper work like you describe. Includes meticulous attention to detail and plenty of pics. I don't know where it is in the thread, though.
