Couple of AD questions

Ok, I bought both the 48 and the 54 in pieces, so I need some help.

On the underneath side of the dash for the 54, this bracket hangs down.

I have no idea what "hangs" there under the dash. It has nothing to do with the cowl vent, I know that.

Then regarding the cowl vent, I had some bad news today. I was dissembling it as I'm starting on the 54 and found the ear that is riveted on the dash piece had come off. Actually, the rivet (I think) had rusted in to.

Is this a rivet? Would a bolt work, since it would be a PITA to try and buck and hammer a rivet in there. What have others done?

Thanks

Re: Couple of AD questions

the bracket is for a wiper motor.

the rivet lets the bracket pivot, so whatever you put in there will need sleeved so you can get it tight but still let it pivot.

Re: Couple of AD questions

Sleeving it as Joe said would be the right way, but the "bestest" way would be using a bolt that is the same size and then use a jam nut or a lock nut.

One style "lock nut" which is what I would use there.

Or

Or of course.

Or the "jam nut" Which this photo I found is interesting being apparently I have been doing it wrong all these years!

But using a jam or lock nut you can tighten up the bolt but still leave it loose enough for the hinge to work without the nut falling off one day.

Thanks guys.

The vent cowl swivel arm is interesting. I'll look for a really small bolt that I can lock washer.

The wiper motor bracket, that makes sense.

You can't use a lock washer, that's what Joe and I were talking about, that thing has to swing back and forth, it's the hinge for the cowl vent. So you have to used a shouldered bolt as Joe said or the exact size bolt and a locking nut like I mentioned.

Sorry Brian, I did read your post and just misspoke. I'll look for a bolt that I can put 2 nuts on to lock it so it doesn't move.

Thanks.
