Check that hidden joint

After installing the new steering box, new tires, alignment and having my guy double check the front end for anything I missed I thought I was good to go.

Took some getting used to the quick steering and I tended to over correct and felt like I was weaving from center line to the edge of the road.. pretty much because I was. After a couple of days I got used to it but it seems to drift left and then right then back left. I thought it was me but the more I drove the more I knew something was wrong. I have a slight bit of play still in the steering but I couldn't find it.

Got someone to help me and we starting looking for the play. Couldn't find it till I pulled the that plastic sleeve that covers the steering shaft and rag joint up. I could just see the rag joint and I was amazed at how worn that thing was. That plastic cover hides the joint and out of sight, out of mind.

I seen a lot of guys use the steering shaft out of older cherokees on the 80s trucks for that reason. I'm guessing it should work on these too but would think you may have vibration issues

Glad you found it, but thats one of the first things to check with sloppy steering in these trucks.
