Door Vent Glass
1 Attachment(s)
Can anyone tell me how I get the vent glass out of the outer frame?
Attachment 1824158 Ive removed the nut and spring at the bottom but I cant get the upper pin to drop so I can swing it out far enough to be able to pull it out from the bottom (Im assuming that's how it should come out). Am I missing something? |
Re: Door Vent Glass
It has to be drilled out and then you put a new one back in its place

Re: Door Vent Glass
In that case I will paint the frame in place. Its not worth the cost of having new glass shipped across the pond and the risk of it smashing. It shouldn't be that hard to do.

Re: Door Vent Glass
The glass will slide out of the inner frame - eventually. I used a razor and cut the glass seating strip sliver by sliver between the glass and the frame. Lots of soapy water and a helper to pull the frame while I pulled the glass and it finally started to slide. I left the inner frame in the outer and sandblasted them together. Fresh paint and new glass seating strip made it look better than new.

Re: Door Vent Glass
That's worth trying. I don't have a new glass seating strip but Im sure I can get them or I can use a mastic such as Sikaflex (don't intend taking them out again, at least nit in my lifetime!).

Sorry for the delay in updating this post.
Got the first door vent refurbished. Was a bit time consuming but easy enough in the end. Attachment 1831873 One, last, question this hard rubber strip should be riveted in place but all I have available are pop rivets which I think will fowl the main door glass. Has anyone tried gluing these in with something like Sikaflex? Attachment 1831874 |
Re: Door Vent Glass
I think I used pop rivets with the flat part facing the vent window and the stem inside the window channel and it did not fowl the main door glass. If you are really worried you cold grind down the stems a little. or try using really little bolts and nuts. but i wold't use glue.

Re: Door Vent Glass
I was looking at it tonight and I could use pop rivets and if necessary flatten them a bit inside the channel if there is an issue.

I followed what this guy did and I got mine taken apart and all back together. Also painted the window frame.

Re: Door Vent Glass
Excellent video, many thanks. That helps loads and if nothing else its a good refresher on how to put it all back together again.
