How do I figure out bolt sizes by looking at the shop manuals and assembly book 1962
 

Hello. I picked up a mostly disassembled 1962 c10 and my biggest headache right now is bolt and screw sizes. I thought getting the assembly manual and shop manuals would help me out, but they don't list bolt sizes, just bolt and a part number for that bolt.

Is there anywhere I can put the bolt part numbers and get back the size? Maybe a website? I read somewhere that there is supposed to be a parts index book that will show the sizes. Anyone know the name and where I can get one?

It's an old thread though. Has there been any developments in the recent years. Anywhere I can find a parts book online? Or can anyone look up some part numbers for me?

Those $500 kits are pretty general and are not vehicle specific, even if they say they are. Especially when it comes to these trucks. Maybe the beds are good.

Now, finding the correct fasteners are another thing. You can buy a box of used fasteners from Aspen Auto Parts and have them refurbished. http://www.aspenautoaz.com/60-66-chevy-truck-parts.html
Then there is the Fender fasteners front end - I bought the Large Flange 5/16-18 here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/50-5-16-18x...MAAOxyJX1TE5dM
The older pointed ones are not available in the large flange (aftermarket), only small flange.
Arrow Plating. One block south of Berry street, west of I35. Take Berry exit off of 35 and go west. There is a RaceTrac there on the corner. Head west on Berry and turn left just before the road heads up over the big bridge over the tracks.

It's called clear zinc. They used to have black and yellow if you prefer. They used to be a 25 dollar minimum charge for the first 25 pounds plus one dollar per pound over 25. You can plate a lot of hardware and widgets for 25 pounds. Was four day turn around time.

The parts books will sometimes help. Try gmpartswiki.com
As I understand there was a fasteners book seperate from the parts book. Never saw or found one.

@Rod thanks for the torque specs. That's in one of my books too!

So if I am missing tons of bolts, and the books aren't going to tell me what bolts I need, how do I tackle this issue the most cost effective way? I am just going to use grade 8 or grade 5 hardware store hex bolts with washers.

I've figured out almost everything is either 3/8 or 5/16. Are the doors the only things that use fine thread? What about bolt lengths? What are the shortest bolts, the longest bolts, and the most common length? I understand I'll need mostly 3/8 coarse thread 1 inch length? I am not dealing the with bed at all right now, just focusing on frame, cab, and front of truck.

For the front end, you could just buy a bolt kit.

Upper/rear, front fender mounts have fine thread also.

Almost everything for the front sheet-metal is 5/16"-18X3/4".
However there are two inner fender to firewall bolts each side that are 3/8".
The hood to hinge are short or you'll dimple the hood sheet-metal.
Also a total of two front fender to radiator support that I think are 3/8".

I had previously found some correct dimension fender bolts from the bolt barn (shown in the pic in silver) However I have since found some from Cllips and Fasteners with a dog point. Also classic parts dot com has them in dog point that "look" correct but I dont have a washer dimension - should be 13/16".
