Seat questions (for big and tall guys)
I am 6'6" 320 lbs. Truck is 70 GMC with 4 on floor, original steering wheel (no p/s), gas tank in cab. It has the original bench seat with some busted springs under driver allowing me to sit lower.
I need a seat... either repair existing or get a newer model seat. I have looked at several threads on adding late model seats and I have some concerns about fitment. Mainly will they sit too high and too far forward. Same deal with repairing springs on existing. How much higher will I sit? Never done this before and not sure what to expect. Ideas or suggestions please. |

macdaddy, type "more leg room" in the advanced search section of '67-'72 Trucks category. There's PAGES & PAGES of posts about our(I'm 6'--330+)problem with these trucks. My '71 GMC aggravates my sciatic nerve because the gas pedal is close to the seat back....OR because my BIG A$$ moves my hip too close to the gas pedal. I don't enjoy the truck nearly as regularly as I would if it didn't hurt my rt. hip. I had a small dia. wood rim Grant aftermarket wheel that helped with the belly room, but I didn't like the way it looked. I've installed a 19' '60 Impala wheel(same as stock) and collapsed the steering column moving the wheel closer to the dashboard. I like the look of the original seat in my truck and don't think moving the fuel tank would help. I may try to modify or fab. some different mounting brackets if I can locate some to butcher.

Check these out. Seat lowering brackets. Then you could also have the foam in the seat cut down as well

Re: Seat questions (for big and tall guys)
I'm 6'4" but have the same issue. I thought it improved when I had my seat redone with new foam and now I actually sit HIGHER, which stretches the distance to the gas pedal. It is still cramped, but some improvement.
