Stock 1970 396 c10 carb choices?

What carb should I use to get peak performance since the carb in truck is junk. Or recommend CFM. I'm new to this....

Unless you're going racing (and even then) the Q-Jet that came on it is a good choice. If it's toast, you should be able to find a replacement with the same features. Note that they are not all the same, internally. An over-the-counter generic unit will not necessarily be jetted for your truck, for instance.

You can get a quadrajet that is set up for your truck.
From Sean Murphy. He’s right in your neighbourhood.

Don’t get blown away by the cost.
Any carb change will eventually cost as much or more.

I agree with the others. You're not going to do better than the Quadrajet.

, even if you are racing!!!

Murphy has a great reputation. www.cliffshighperformance.com can send you ALL the parts you need to make yours better than new, and had ethanol compatible parts, PLUS cCliff's part will get your carb calibrated to specifically work on your engine, and with today's gasoline...

These trucks are not made for racing except in rare cases … :burnout:

This is true, but Cliff Ruggles runs a Pontiac quite competitively with a Q-Jet, which is why I brought it up. I don't expect to race my truck, honestly, I just want it to run right. Whichever book a person buys for Q-Jet overhaul (if they do it for themselves) should be fine. They just have to know about the accelerator piston and the floats being made of material impervious to ethanol in the fuel.

And as far as the CFM issue is concerned, properly set up secondaries will control the flow. Not many vehicles need that much in the way of flow, unless you are racing. My truck is set up bone stock, but tears it right up when I hit the throttle. Enough to scare the wife, anyway.
