Anyone move first gen Blazer in a moving truck before?
So my new purchase in Wyoming is an hour off the interstate. It's proving real difficult to get an auto transport pickup to deliver to New Jersey. I'm going through every scenario trying to get it back here. I've thought of actually buying a truck and a car trailer out there loading it up bring it home and selling the truck and the trailer. I've also looked into what the load capacity is of a moving truck. Turns out there are trucks that could easily accommodate the 5600 pound Blazer. I wonder if any of you have ever done it before. There'd obviously have to be away to secure a truck within the truck so it's not flopping around. Seems a little crazy but someone may have already done it, looking forward to your replies.

You could rent a truck and a car trailer. As long as it doesn't have wide tires on it, the Blazer should fit on the trailer.

Rent a uhaul truck and trailer

Re: Anyone move first gen Blazer in a moving truck before?
To heavy for uhaul they told me

Re: Anyone move first gen Blazer in a moving truck before?

Re: Anyone move first gen Blazer in a moving truck before?
I just put in a 2001 Silverado 1500 as the towed vehicle on U-Haul's website. It said it could haul an auto transport with a 15' U-haul truck. The Silverado is longer and heavier than your Blazer. The guys at U-Haul generally have no idea what they're talking about. And I doubt their computer has a 72 Blazer in it as an option.
If it were me I would look to rent a car hauler trailer locally and make the round trip. Or you could buy a tandem axle trailer near your destination (a new car hauler in the SLC area starts at less than $2k) and rent a truck to tow it. Then sell the trailer if you don't need it. |
Re: Anyone move first gen Blazer in a moving truck before?
I've rented a truck from enterprise before and used it to tow.... Dont let them know . Youll have to look hard to find a truck that has the ability to tow as I dont think a lot of their vehicles have a receiver. I think the suburbans have a hidden receiver behind a plastic cover so that might work. Where abouts you going in Wyoming that its so hard to get to?

Newcastle Wyoming

Re: Anyone move first gen Blazer in a moving truck before?
****...I thought you were talking the boonies. I wouldn't think it would be that hard to get it picked up from Newcastle. Maybe offer the seller some extra $ to get it to the interstate? Good luck

Re: Anyone move first gen Blazer in a moving truck before?
I thought of that, offering the seller a couple of bucks and I will do that if no one accepts my bid. I plan to raise bid two or three hundred to entice the driver to go 46 miles off the interstate grab my truck and then get back on the interstate. Every scenario going through my head it's not going to be any cheaper for me to go out there and bring it home and I'll have a three-day ride ahead of me, not like I'm sightseeing so just get it here. I did pretty well in the price of truck so just got to bite the bullet and get it here.

Re: Anyone move first gen Blazer in a moving truck before?
I delivered a 72 CST from Texas to Nevada years ago in the back of a 20 footer (maybe a bit longer ?) U-haul with wood floor. Loaded it at work, since we had both a drive up ramp and loading dock in our warehouse, then paid a guy $40 on the other end to let us unload it at his muffler shop using his 4 post lift. We had to ask a few shops with 4 posters on the other end, before anyone said yes ..meah, liability shmi'ability !!
Overall it was simple and cost effective. Screwed 2x4's directly down into the wood flooring with 6 inch wood screws, then strapped each tire/wheel down to them. Very solid, no issues. Returned the truck in NV and you'd never known it was used for car hauling. |
Re: Anyone move first gen Blazer in a moving truck before?
There you go, knew someone had to have done it. But I'll probably just keep increasing bid until someone says yes. When I do all the math there's little saved by doing myself

Re: Anyone move first gen Blazer in a moving truck before?
I moved my 72 Blazer with a U-Haul trailer and it worked. The distance between the fenders on the trailer was 2" smaller than the width of my tires (I have 33x12.50 with a decent offset). I ended up having to borrow wheels from a friends blazer to get the front tires past the fenders. It was a pain but once it was on, there were no issues towing. The trailer was well balanced.

Re: Anyone move first gen Blazer in a moving truck before?
How would you plan to get to get the Blazer up into and out of a moving van? Fly out and make arrangements to rent their small box van and a trailer to tow it home. One way is a lot more expensive but better that you would be coming from the west. Hope you get it home safe and sound.

Run some numbers and see what it would cost to get it yourself by going there getting a tow vehicle and trailer plus fuel lodging, and food. Be prepared to put that out to bid for a car transport. If it is cheaper get the tow vehicle get a trailer from uhaul and don’t tell them it is a blazer tell them it is a honda. Load it up and bring it home.

Re: Anyone move first gen Blazer in a moving truck before?
It's actually about the same cost but three days of my time. We did get someone accept a bit of 1450 and with the broker's commission it would go to 1600 which I was happy to pay. But my guy the seller was not available on the day he was picking up. He works some crazy hours and it's proving difficult.

Don't forget we want pics when it gets there....

Re: Anyone move first gen Blazer in a moving truck before?
I see you were able to move it on a transport. It is a real pain to get these moved of you aren’t within a driving distance and can pick it up yourself.
