That's a very cool find.

As a kid I frequently took apart and rebuilt toy trucks. I wanted a tow truck soooo badly. The gas station downtown had been there since the early 1900's and the owner had an Ertl wrecker he'd hand painted his shop logo on. I would spend hours sitting in the office looking at that truck.

This is one I have on my fireplace hearth. Now the sad story. My Grandmother bought this for me for Christmas, 1962. She died unexpected Dec 23rd. You can imagine what this thing means to me.

I use to give my pet hamster rides in it. :D

The other photo is a crazy similar truck my dad owned around 1964.

I'd say that both Norcalgal's hubby's truck and Brian's trucks are priceless. I don't have any of the toy cars or trucks I had as a young kid as I think I just flat wore them out to the point there was nothing left.

I do have my bear that I got for Christmas when I was 1 year old.

Well, since we’re all revealing we’ve been truck fans since we were children I’ll show the one I’ve got. My brother in law found this at a garage sale and thinking nothing of it I put it one my bench and my tape measures ended up in it.

Cool use of your dump truck!

Personally, I'd never sell any of this stuff if it were mine. My stuff kind of all disappeared during my four years in the Navy (baseball cards, trains, toys, models, car parts, etc.), but we were in an apartment and there was no room for anything. My grandmother even gave my tools and box to my uncle when he opened up his gas station while I was gone.

That is HILARIOUS! Honestly, I have one of those dump trucks (no memories) sitting in my back yard and I think I will put it to work like yours!

That sucks, but I have to tell you, if you have a good memory of a particular item hunt down another one and buy it. Put it on a shelf and it becomes YOURS, you know what I mean?

I have stuff like this all over, it fires memories.

Guys, I have to say, we are all different, but I have found having these memories out to see is so healthy. Don't leave them in a box in the attic, put them out to see. Years ago I actually loathed the idea of this, even family photos on the walls, NOPE, that is for "art" not crap I see every day, that's what I thought. Then sometime a few decades ago that changed and my home is covered with childhood photos, my parents (now long gone) and memories.

I have made pieces out of stuff I had stored for years like this picture frame full of photos of my grand parents house. You see, the "frame" is the door off a built in hutch in their living room of that house (that is now long gone.) I had it out in the back yard for years, then in the shed, it got pretty rotted and messed up so it took a bit of time to fix a few years ago, but there it is up on the living room wall full of memories now. Where it was sitting out taking up storage, with a few days work it's up and I enjoy it.

One cool thing about these projects is you actually finish them! LOL Unlike these HUGE truck projects, these little ones can get done in a few days and fire you up to get these done on the truck.

It's sad, my wife didn't have a good childhood, lots of funky stuff. She doesn't have anything she wants me to make for her like this. :( If you can pull a good memory out of something, do so.

By the way, the photo of my dad in the Army on the table under this frame, that photo sat on the hutch under this frame/door in my grand parents house my whole childhood. So I thought it only fitting to put it under it in my house.

After my grandmother on dad's side passed I didn't ask for much. My aunt was busy trying to find every last dollar she could in everything left behind and I wasn't interested in the drama. But when the chance to get some of the toy trucks my father, then his brother, then I got to play with I jumped on it. I let the '80s vintage yellow and red Ertl semi go out to the sanbox with my son but I kept this one for myself.
