Cab swap
ok I give up.
|
Re: Cab swap
If I were doing this, and had concerns about the legality of it I would do so discreetly.
I wouldn't publish the entire story on the internet. Cab swaps are handled differently in different jurisdictions, so check with your local DMV. I wouldn't recommend telling them you bought a truck with bad title and are doing this to "Launder" the truck/title. |
Re: Cab swap
Ditto. Check with our state highway patrol or state police as well. They are the ones that will most likely have to inspect it after it's done. There are VINs on frames as well. It will be up to you to explain why the two do not match.

Re: Cab swap
Ok Never mind I'll just replace the engine in the 2500 gmc and sell it instead.
|
Re: Cab swap
I should clarify I have a title in the works for the k1500 I'm not switching the cab for the title it's for rust and it is in much better shape.
I'm not trying to fool the DMV. |

Re: Cab swap
Don't worry guys I canceled the sale my trailer breaks are locked and my boss would be pissed if I brought home another truck.
I think I will just wait and buy a running one next year. Thanks for the advice guys. |
Re: Cab swap
Post 7 aside, VIN tampering is a federal issue so think about it to others.

Re: Cab swap
Well, I sure learned my lesson never post anything online.
First of all, I never intended to deface the vin that's why I asked. I am not going to do anything. |
Re: Cab swap
Best course of action in something like this is never post on a forum, go directly to the people who know what is required, can approve or direct you on how to do it correctly and legal.
Doesn't take any longer to email the DMV or State Police than it would to open a can of worms like this turned out to be... Each state is different as to what is allowed and what isn't and there are literally folks from all over the world on a forum like this, some speaking from experience based on how it works in their area to just not knowing. This is a great place, with lots of helpful and experienced people to ask build questions, get trouble shooting ideas for issues, but the last place any one should ever consider seeking legal advice... |
Re: Cab swap
Well, some of us are in the legal profession. If advice is asked, I will do what I can to give a correct answer. With that said, it's still on the person asking the original question to contact the proper authorities in his/her state to confirm what they are doing is correct. OP, I was never intending to give you any grief. Hope you didn't take it that way. I just wanted to make sure you didn't do something that would get you into trouble potentially.
