57 car rearend chunk
Good morning gentlemen, and ladies if there are any present...
I have found a great deal on a 1957 car rearend dropout I can not find any information, that it would work or not in my 1955.2 3100 stock rear end. I am presently running 4:11 stock rear and they are not driver friendly with my 400sbc and th350 combo. The 57 dropout is 3:37(as advertised...) Any and all information and help would be greatly appreciated! |

think about an overdrive trans or overdrive unit behind the existing trans. maybe better off in the long run.

Re: 57 car rearend chunk
Car and Truck are totally different parts will not interchange also width on passenger is narrow than truck, Trucks are 62 inches wide versus cars 60.00 inches but will work. 1955-1964 Chevy Car same center section.

Re: 57 car rearend chunk
Thank you all for your help. Eventually I'm going with a ls swap and a t5. Ill come up with a good solution to keep driving it while i get all those parts together. Ive even considered getting a 9in to use.

Re: 57 car rearend chunk
also, don't rule out the ford 8.8, it's pretty strong as well. available from a wrecker with discs, posi and 3.73 if you want.. anti sway bars from rangers can be added easily as well as easy park brake connections and parts readily available at most auto parts places. check out the ranger station for a write up on them. explorers have them with an offset pumkin but they can be narrowed easily by taking some off the long side axle tube and then using 2 short side axles.
just a thought. they have a C clip axle retainer, which some will say, whoa, you'll lose an axle. how many fords have you seen with on the side of the road for a lost axcle, other things yes, but not lost axles. lol. |
