Rear cab brace

New here and just have started on my 66 C10 SWBF.
I am replacing the end of the rear cab brace on my 66 c10. Bought a Counterpart brace. It will not fit unless a slice and dice it. Have a buddy that does these all the time and he tells me that is the way it is. Anyone know of another manufacturer that makes a decent part?
