WTB 3 Speed Overdrive Transmission

Looking for a Saganaw or Muncie 3 speed Transmission to put behind my 292 3 OTT C20. Thanks

Re: WTB 3 Speed Overdrive Transmission

I have a Saginaw 3-speed w/OD tail shaft unit but it’s missing the solenoid.
Trans worked fine until it got jammed into 1st or 2nd gear, so I pulled it just last year. Since I couldn’t find the parts to get the OD working, and my truck had a 4:11 gear, I had to go with a T5...etc

I live near KC. I have no idea what shipping would cost to MA.

Thanks BurbN, I'll keep it in mind.

Does your tranny still have the governor in the OD unit?

Yes. I PMd you more info.
Those can be bypassed or setup on a push button I believe.

Yes, they can, but having them fully functional like GM intended is a pretty slick setup.

I agree. It seems that parts for the OD units are hard to find (individually), so most people want to sell them as a complete setup. Mine will end up in a project someday and function as it was intended, or it will be sold to someone else to do what they please with it.

I'm still trying to figure out what I want to do about it. I would love to have one working like when it was new.

Re: WTB 3 Speed Overdrive Transmission

I don’t that one will bolt up to a 230,250,292 block. It looks like it’s made for the earlier 235 engine maybe...

Re: WTB 3 Speed Overdrive Transmission

That muncie trans pattern is the same on the 235 bellhousings and the 194 230 250 292 bellhousings. Bell to trans=the same. Bell to motor=different

Re: WTB 3 Speed Overdrive Transmission

So he would just need a 194-230-250-292 BELL, if he bought this trans....Good Info.

I think he would also have to make some custom shift linkage, though, because those shift shafts are closer together than the Saginaw 3-speed.

Yeah, depends on the year I think. At one point the 3 speeds went to a different side cover . 4 bolt to 7 or something. I’m not sure when. My ‘63 had the smaller side cover from the factory.

Re: WTB 3 Speed Overdrive Transmission

55 to either 65 or 66 were the 4 bolt side covers, technically the muncie sm319 trans.
When GM changed over to the fully syncro'd Saginaw trans with the 7 bolt side cover, the OD version switched over as well
