Review: CPP 500 series steering box

Put the box on 2 weeks ago and all I can say is WOW what a difference. The steering is so much tighter with basically no slop. The steering is significantly harder to turn now which doesn’t bother me at all since it was very easy to start with. The slightly quicker ratio is nice. I chose to put the decorative cover over the box which does not come installed. There is no instructions so I called CPP and was instructed to torque the bolts on the cover to 25ft/lbs.

This is on my ‘74 2wd SWB with cut replacement coils, drop spindles, summit racing shocks and flip kit in the rear. I used to have the original box, then a reman box and now this one. The steering shaft I made to work is the stock column side and a modified Astro Van box side.

I can’t remem the final price of the box but I got it on Summit Racing with 10% off and it took just over 3 MONTHS to come in. It was a long annoying wait but worth every dime.

I put a CPP 500 steering box on my '67 cutlass and love it. I did not know they made a steering box for squares. I'm considering using the CPP rear disc brake conversion on my '85 stepper, I will also look into the steering box.

I've had one in my summit wish list for over year, can't wait to put one in eventually!
