Question on model designations..
 

SO I got the assembly manual for the 67-72 trucks..
a few questions..

Is there any place I can find a list of all the possible options and RPO codes etc for these trucks?

Next what models are these

CA 10900----

Ca 10700-----

CA 31000-----

CA 20900-----


What is by best resource for technical info across the board asside from the assembly manual???


I'm trying to research as much as possible before I bring my project to my home, from the storage lot as I am limited on space and need to make a very detailed game plan to make as much progress as possible in a short time frame....

CA 10900---- C=2wd, A=All Engines, 109=127" wheelbase 1/2 Ton, 00 =All Models

Ca 10700----- C=2wd, A=All Engines, 107=115" wheelbase 1/2 Ton, 00=All Models

CA 31000----- Not sure, but something to do with 1 ton models, all engines

CA 20900-----C=2wd, A=All Engines, 209=127" wheelbase 3/4 Ton 00=All Models

The GM Heritage Center has vehicle info kits that list RPOs (and lots more) available for each model year.

That is correct. You will need to know what model your truck is and what the RPO's that it has when using the factory manuals, service, overhaul, or assembly.

Some stuff is not RPO specific, so it will just list the models of that apply to whatever is being shown. A longbed fleet 1/2 ton is a model CE or CS 10934, depending on whether it is a V8 or a six, regardless of it being a plain C/10 or a loaded CST/10. The manuals treat all trucks as though they are no-option base models, with info on RPO's treated as separate items that are installed along side or in place of base equipment, depending on the RPO.

So, if the manual says CA10900 for some detail, it means that detail applies to all 1/2 ton 127" wheelbase models, wether it's a fleet, step, suburban, etc.

For me personally, in order of importance:
For maintenance and repairs:
1. Chassis Service Manual
2. Chassis Overhaul Manual
3. Factory Assembly Manual

For understanding what was available on which trucks and what the RPOs mean, etc:
GM VIKs as mentioned above are indispensable.

And don't overlook the little glovebox owner's manual. It's kinda funny - I have two 2001 trucks - one I bought new, and one I bought a month ago. I read the owner's manual just for grins to refresh and was amazed how much I'd either forgotten or just plain never knew in the first place over the last 18 years on my 1st one.

For decoding model #'s and VINs, just use the front few pages of the LMC Truck catalog. There are also threads on here devoted to that info also, but very similar to LMC's.
