64-66 AC Evaporator Case Insulation
1 Attachment(s)
I found a couple of posts from 3 and 4 years ago asking about the insulation that was apparently factory-applied to the inside of the top lid of the evaporator case.
Has anybody since that time been inside theirs to see what's there? (The photo below belongs to Calichevyv8) |

The insulation is very similar to the cork tape we use for wrapping refrigeration components, you could use dynamat as it is around the same thickness.

I have one that still has the insulation in place. It is closed-cell foam 1/8" thick. It completely covers the inside of the top cover. You can see the indentations from all the brackets, plastic case, and the evaporator core.

There is a similar piece of foam (1/8" x 3.5" x 13") on the bottom of the plastic case where the evaporator sits. (1st pic)
Along each forward vertical end of the evap core there is a foam seal glued to the plastic case. It is 1/4" thick x 3/8" wide x 6.5" long. (2nd & 3rd pic) |

There are other seals too-
On the bottom of the steel top for the outlet duct there is 1/8" foam. (pic 1) On the outlet diverter there seems to have been foam completely covering the door on both sides. I assume it was 1/8" thick. (pic 2 & 3) Around the diverter metal frame there was black strip caulk between the metal and the plastic case. (pic 4 & 5) |
