15x7 6 Lug Rally Caps?

I finally found 2 15x7 truck rallies for use on the front on my ‘68. Has anyone found a short center cap? The 4x4 caps...while fine on the 15x8s look awkward on the 15x7s. What did they have originally? Are there any aftermarket/offshore ones that are shorter? I’m thinking something in the 3” range would be the proper proportion. I haven’t ruled out buying some eBay ones and cutting/re-attaching them.

Thank you.

Does your 68 still have the 6 bolt rims. I have never seen 6 bolt 15 x 7 rally rims they are always 15 x8 , but then I don't know everything.

Re: 15x7 6 Lug Rally Caps?

Yes...6 bolt. The 15x8s are certainly the most common....from 4x4s. They did early on make a 15x7 and it looks more proportional on the front of 4x2 trucks. So yes...I’m referring to 15x7 6 lug truck rally wheels.

I think the 15X7 were put on vans, if I remember right. They're harder to find.

As to the question about the center caps, I don't really know. Keith Seymour would probably know.

Well just learned something else today. I never knew there were 6 bolt 15 x 7 bolt rallys.

Well, maybe not. There were no 6 lug 2wd vans or trucks that rallye wheels ever came on, only 4wd and I only know of 8" as well. From '71 on all 1/2 ton 2wd GM trucks and vans came with 5-lug wheels. Now 5-lug rallyes did came in widths narrower than 8".

For the original question my answer is use '88-'98 4wd 6-lug center caps. Some came with the bowtie, not 4x4. You'll need to get SAE to metric conversion duplex lug nuts

I will post a pic of them in the truck when I get home Sunday. I have 275/60/15 on the rear (15x8) and 255/60/15 on the front (15x7). Still trying to find caps. I like the idea of using the 88-98 caps, what what are duplex lugs?

What color are these? Looks to be darker than argent silver

The 15x7's are rare and bring about $100 ea today. I've bought and sold a few sets on here. I think the spare tire theory is the most correct one.
I'm running these metal caps with the spinners added. I also have a set of NOS plastic 6 lug's without the spinners.

Re: 15x7 6 Lug Rally Caps?

Are the plastic ones you have 4” deep? To me it seems like those would stick out too far on a 15x7

You can buy duplex lug nuts on eBay.
That’s where I bought mine for my old ‘69.
These are 15x7’s and 15x8’s.
215/70 and 275/60 tires.

Re: 15x7 6 Lug Rally Caps?

These are so rare I forgot finding out about them back when this thread was posted.

Those '88 style caps are held on at the lug nut. They are duplex, which is a lug nut that threads on the stud to hold the wheel on, as usual, and have external threads below the hex that plastic fake lug nuts thread on to hold the cap on. The '88-ups have metric studs/lugs, so you need what they call conversion duplexes, which have the proper external thread for the cap and SAE threads for the stud. Other than being more shallow, I just think they look better. Nice and clean looking all smooth instead of all notched up and chunky looking. Afterall, they were made for a 4wd with wide wheels and beefier tires

Final result: 7s in front 8s in rear 255x60x15 front and 275s rear. Wheels painted bright platinum and 88-98 caps. Now time to buff and wax this low mileage original!

Looks great. Those later centers nestle in there nicely and lend more to the wheel depth/dish.

I'm still curious what the 7s came on. What vehicle would they be a spare for? Trucks under the bed? I never saw a K/5 that didn't have a matching spare.

I’m not sure either...as previously mentioned, either for 4WD vans (which I didn’t think Chevy made) or as spares for k10s and/or blazers.

Right on no Chevy 4wd Vans and I know K/5s had matching spare wheel with rallyes. So, must be for under bed spare on pickups. I wouldn't know. The only 6-lug squarebody I ever messed with were K/5s

There is a machine shop I have talked to about doing like the 5 lug caps in 6 lug version. He wants $2000. To do 5 sets. Will even put chevy.emblems in center so no need for stickers or gmc whichever you prefer. Its cheaper to get 5 sets made than 1 because of the set up charge. They will be made from aluminum and polished. Just couldnt bring myself to dole out that kinda money in Hope's of selling rest. Just put 15x8 rally's with large centers front and rear. Think is turned out ok. Running 265×75×15's. On all 4. Its a 68.

Re: 15x7 6 Lug Rally Caps?

I went to buy a full set of 6 lug Rally Wheels years ago and was very disappointed to find 2-8 inch and 2-7 inch wide wheels. Seller said that they came off of a 2 wheel drive "Blazer." They came with trim rings and 4 identical center caps (all the same height and no holes in any for 4WD) and all 4 were labeled "GMC" in the center. Maybe he meant 2WD "Jimmy?"

Re: 15x7 6 Lug Rally Caps?

The 2wd Blazers rallyes would have come on were all 5-lug. All 2wd 1/2t trucks & vans have been 5-lug since 1971, before rallye wheels existed. He might have had them on a '70 2wd K/5. That would be the only year a 2wd K/5 would have 6-lugs
