New guy intro, 1967 C20
 

Hey all, been reading the forums for awhile getting some ideas on what I would like to do to my truck. It needs some exterior work, but the engine and transmission have been rebuilt. Rear end needs a little work (makes a noise when you drive). Right now I want to work on the wood bed, lower it, and possibly swap over to a 5 or 6 lug pattern for more wheel options. Not looking to paint it anytime soon. Look forward to interacting with you all and reading on the forums. This is a new hobby for me so forgive my ignorance. Also, I am in San Diego for now.

Thanks guys. One of the reasons I decided on this one was everything was visible, I could see the frame was in good shape and a lot of the mechanical work had already been done. Just trying to decide where to start. Work travel is calming down and I have an opportunity to get something done after January. I had thought about doing the bed and cutting the wood planks myself, thought it would be a good milling learning experience.

There a several threads here were members have
cut there own planks.
From the list you had in the first post/
I will just suggest
#1
Pick the Rims (wheels and tire combo)
Swap the rear axle that fits those.
This will get rear axle problem fixed.
As long as the rear axle you buy is in good shape.

Buy the front spindles that will achieve the (drop) stance
you choose and the lugs to match
the rear axle bolt pattern.
#3
Lower the rear axle to match the rake you desire.
with the bed floor out.
Then work on the bed floor.

Exterior work.

Then by that time you
will either be out of money or ready to paint it.:lol:
Just take your time and enjoy your new found hobby.

Pretty solid advice, I like where you're head is at. I have seen a few rear axles for sale locally, just need to figure out what works for what I have. Not sure what the rear end is, I haven't had time to take off the cover. For wheels and tires I like steelies/smoothies for the most part; I like how the trucks looked years ago and love a nice patina'd truck that runs great.
