Chome Glovebox door Factory option?

2 Attachment(s)
Hey all,

When I bought my truck it came with a chrome glove box door with a black Chevrolet emblem on it. I have seen aftermarket chrome ones, but have not seen another one like this. Was a chrome glove box door a factory option in '68? Did someone have this one chromed back in the day? Or was this an aftermarket part and added later?? Unfortunately my SPID is long gone. Thanks for the info!!

No, not an option - aftermarket or previous owner mod. That one looks painted to me, but can't really tell.

Ok very cool, thanks for that info.

I have seen the new emblems from LMC and they're silver/chrome with a blue chevy bowtie... Im assuming that is the correct original colors of the emblem right?

Wanting to restore my truck to as close to factory original as I can

Yes, blue on the glovebox door bow tie. Krylon True Blue is a good match. Well, for the 69-72 hubcaps it is... I'm not sure if it's a correct assumption that it'd be the same throughout the years. A place to start maybe. It's interesting that the gb door bow tie is blue when the exterior bow ties didn't turn blue until 69. 67-68 were red on the exterior.

I thought that was weird also, to have blue on the bow tie on the glove box when everything else on the truck is red. So I figured I would ask. Thanks for clearing all that up for me, now at least I know how my glove box should look to be correct!!

Jocko is correct.
Your glove box door looks painted to me also, which is why the SPID is gone also. Is your cab a C-40 C-60?

I wonder if they polished the stock steel door and clear coated it.

Kinda looks that way to me, rather than chromed. Seems to be visible sanding marks too.

You guys are too sharp. The p.o. of my truck painted the dash black (truck is orange). I have a spare C60 cab, so I put the glove box door in that cab to see what it would have looked like if the dash were back to its original colour. This is the glove box door that came on my truck when I bought it, but I didn't have a good pic of it in the truck. I didn't like the looks of it, so I put the orange one from my C60 in there and it looks much better to me. These pics are the only good ones I had of the original glove box door

I was wondering that myself. It kind of looks that way to me but I don't know. Sorry I don't have any better pictures. Wish they had left the SPID alone when they did whatever they did to it :(

FWIW,
I had an original Cheyenne Super glove box door and discovered the wood grain was actually applied to an aluminum sheet or "skin" which was glued onto the face of a standard painted glove box door.
So...if someone had a super and the woodgrain were to wear out they could polish it all off and effectively have a "chrome looking" glove box door that was by definition original - just stripped of the woodgrain - but it would have to have been a real "super"....and the edges around it would still be body color.
Maybe another way for purists to catch fake "super's" with woodgrain applied to a standard glove box door without the aluminum under panel?

I guess people do not remember that chrome glove box doors burn the hell out of a seat when the sun hits it at the proper angle
