A few old photos from my albums
 

I probably could have come up with some better title but here are a few photos I dug out.

Top photo should be the 48 just after I traded back for it in 1975 or 76. Most of that paint came off during a trip to the car wash.

Second photo is the 48 around Christmas 1982 when we went up to my ex sister in laws to visit my nephew. He is the young man to the left in the photo and trains cutting horses in Texas now. My son John with the glasses and my niece who is now a lawyer with the blond hair. It may have been one of those times when the 48 was the only thing we had running.

Third photo was taken in Texas Probably in 1976. I think that was the first outing for that truck. JD Fikes of Waco built it. The truck sat on a shortened 55 Chevy car frame and was chopped and ran a shortened bed and no running boards. He had the quad lights, Dream truck scoop and Merc shell in it then.
4th photo was running down the road and shows the 64 Pontiac fender lips on the rear fenders.

5th photo shows it with the Chevy grill just after he got it together. That was probably the first event he took it to.
The truck ended up in Oklahoma with a pinstriper who finished it and drove it for a few years and had it up for sale the last time I heard anything on it.

No the gray primered one belonged to JD Fikes of Waco Tx I'm not sure how he came up with the 48 3/4 ton truck he built it out of. We were both working for his father in law at the time. He had some guy give him the chassis from a 55 Chevy 4 door for cutting the body shell off it to use on a circle track car. He stripped it to a bare rolling chassis and we set the cab over on it one evening for a trial fit and he stuck the Pontiac engine he had in it.

He cut he bed off behind the second post and moved the front panel back and we set it on and measured and pulled it back off and he took a hack saw to the frame and cut a section out and welded it back together and cut the driveshaft down all in about two hours and we got back in and drove it around the VA parking lot behind the shop again.

He is the same guy who built and drove a 27 T roadster with a 55 chevy car back section cut down for a turtle deck complete with 55 taillights to Memphis for the street rod Nationals one year. I think that was 1975 as I had just started going to college in the mornings and would get off at noon and run by the shop and work on the T to help him get it ready and his father inlaw asked me to go to work for him in the afternoons while I was helping with the T. I worked there the next two years while I was going to school. I'd show up for work just before noon and Tommy would tell me what he needed done and take off for lunch.
