Re: Can tailpipes burn bedwood?
I don't know how close is too close.
But I have to share this story. : Yes they will burn bed wood.:lol: You will laugh at the end. I was about 7 or 8 years old Riding with daddy to work during the summer. To keep a long story short. My Daddy was a Mechanic for a construction company. One of his helpers(named HardRock) had a 64 Chevy Truck. We was about 200 miles from home working on several 6 wheel Euclid scrapers. About 10 miles before the Interstate exit to go to the shop. My Daddy gets on the CB to HardRock. Hey Hardrock you better pull over Now. Well I just have to ask you . Do you think HardRock relieved his-self in the bed of his truck? If you said yes you would be right. |

Re: Can tailpipes burn bedwood?
absolutely ....I pulled the bed off my neighbor's square body step so they could refinish the wood ..it was charcoaled where the pipes went over the axle....he rerouted the pipes to turn out in front of the rear tires

Re: Can tailpipes burn bedwood?
Above the Exhaust elbow on 62 panel ( plywood floor ) it has a sheet metal heat shield, about 1/2" air space from wood.

Re: Can tailpipes burn bedwood?
Bed wood heat shields are sold at many parts places on line. For instance - http://www.oldchevytrucks.com/cart/i...=heat%20shield
So yes there is a reason for them. http://www.oldchevytrucks.com/sku/im...ld%2047-72.jpg |
Re: Can tailpipes burn bedwood?
Today i took it for a test run. (Granted it was only 50 degrees outside.) At no time was the wood anything beyond a bit warm when I touched the area in question. Sure, the pipe was hot enough to burn, but it looks like as of now it's got enough clearance. I did it myself with a kit from Summit. Maybe I was just second guessing myself a bit too much. I'll let it go for now since it's all welded up and just keep tabs on it as the weather warms up.

Re: Can tailpipes burn bedwood?
JUST as an FYI, the re-popped heat shields are literally HALF the length of the factory OEM one. IF you go this route, but two (or four if you have dual exhaust). I reused my oem one.
