Painting hood logo

Hi guys

I've taken off and cleaned up the GMC logo (the words GMC that are chromed and is at the front of the bumper). I know that the text is filled with black paint, and I got to put new paint into the logo. Any particular paint that you recommend? Gloss or matte?

I assume it's the same paint used for the headlight eyebrows?

I figure I'll use hobby paint brushes to fill in the black into the logos.

Thanks for any advice!

If the Jimmy will spend most of it's time Outside
I would use matte.
Like you mentioned the headlight eyebrows color
is on the front is in view.
So would you have those two different shades of color?

I haven't painted the eyebrows yet. I would use the same paint for them.
Matte sounds like the right choice. Any particular type of paint?
I read somewhere that two part epoxy paint is better when painting on top of chrome. True?

I would use a Marine paint.
The kind recommended for aluminum boats.
It will bond to the headlight eyebrows good.
It will also handle the elements of summer and winter.

Rustolium in Satin finish is what I used on the "8 350" and "CST" emblems. Also touched up the unpainted rivets on my replacement grill 15 years ago. The oil based pain still looks like the day I painted it, was easy to apply using hobby brushes and perfect match on the grill.

Pictured is the semi-gloss as reference but I suggest using satin so you don't go too glossy or dull (chalky).

This is the stuff you want. Been using this for years on all my restorations. It's designed to adhere to trim.

When I work on emblems I like to use a syringe, makes it really easy to fill the spots.

The body shop that did the body paint is going to paint it. They have some special paint they are using, and they just painted the grille in that paint.

Hmmm... I get it from NAPA. The formula did change about 10 years ago, but it's still an amazing product. I don't see why you couldn't get it in BC. Try mail order if you have to.

Edit; you can get it from Amazon.ca
