Ok. I love the c10 I restored 2 years ago and a Chevy guy at heart but couldnt pass up this project.
1967 cougar
289cu.
Solid car and should be a cool project.
Runs and drives but needs some engine love.
Just thought I'd share

Looks like a nice project. 67 was for sure the best year for cougar. I wanted one really bad when I was in high school. XR7 yes!

Yeah. I almost bought one when I was 17. Was too rough.
Hope to get it like this when done.

I like them too. My friend's mom got a '67 XR7 when they came out. I was disappointed because I loved her Black w/red buckets 4spd 390 Galaxie 500XL. I got used to the Cougar, then she got a Burgundy '69 Marauder X100 w/429 and I was disappointed again. Too big for me. Mt favorite Merc is the '65 Comet Caliente

This thread isn't 67-72 GM Truck related, so I'm moving it to General Discussion

It’s all good. I always liked the cougar. I know it’s not the same animal, pun intended, but I had a 64 falcon many years ago. It had a 289 with broken motor mounts. The previous owner had both sides of the engine chained to the frame. Back then I thought that was awesome, but it wasn’t.

Our neighbors across the street are in their mid 70s and last year they purchased a pretty nice red with black vinyl top 67 Cougar. I asked em what made them buy that? It was the same as the one they bought new in 67. When I was a kid one of my buddies moms had a brand new dark green 68. I loved riding in that car, mostly because of his mom ... If you get my drift =)

That was me with Mrs. Starcher. She looked like Patsy Cline. Red lipstick on her cigarette butts. I can still see clear as day my view from the back seat of that XL500 of her pushing the clutch and shifting that 4-on-the-floor with t-handle reverse lockout. She drank Tab to help preserve her figure. Ol' Vernon Starcher had himself quite a fox and her made sure he kept her in prime rolling stock. He drove trucks, was an excavating contractor. I recall the Diamond Reo cabover he hauled his lowboy with. Enough about my childhood memories... well except Ricky was my buddy I built car models with, swapped parts, exchanged build ideas. I guess not much in my life has changed, swap meets and truck forum.

No problem on the mispost (is that what it's called?... heh heh). Once you start throwing wrenches at it you could always start a thread in Alternate Tinkerings with the rest of the riff raff...............Just kidding!!:ito:

As a chevy guy I have two memories with Mercs. My uncle who lived in Detroit always drove Mercury cars. He and my aunt couldn't have kids but he made us nephews and nieces feel very special when he came to my grandparents each summer in his new Mercury. I asked him one time why Mercury? His comment was Big Man - Big Car.

The other memory was a 1967 cougar my friend's sister had. Really enjoyed cruising the local hot spot in that car. Kinda liked his sister too !
