Aftermarket radio loses memory presets

Did a small search and didn't find anything applicable. '71 Cheyenne with aftermarket radio that was in the truck when I bought it some time ago. Works fine good sound for a half deaf guy...........Memory function for station presets used to work now every time I start the truck I have to reset the memory. Are there backup batteries in these things or what? A little help please!

one of the power wires (often yellow) needs to be constant power for clock and preset memory
See if inline fuse is blown and check for power
Small light tester is a big help for checking electrical problems.

Could be Orange wire also.

Agree with above. Check your lighter fuse, or wherever radio taps into power supply. Memory presets / clock need constant power.

Switched power is a separate lead, to power radio amplifier.

Sounds like to me your radio is going out on you if it worked before and now it doesn't. You did check fuses I'm sure before asking for help so that's a no brainer but some old radio's have a mini fuse on the backside of the unit it'self that may have blown.:chevy:

I think a board member made it.
I saw it years ago here and saved the image.
Good to have.

If your battery is near the end and does maintain a certain voltage you will also lose your preset stations. Kept happening to my retro sound until I replaced the battery.

Problem solved. Still needs a constant battery source to keep memory
