Under-dash AC units, and mounting them on the floor?
 

Putting together parts for the K10, and I'm thinking about adding AC for the Georgia summers.
BUT, I have a Corvair under-dash radio pod that looks like it was made for the Knee Knocker double-hump dashboards--I'm mounting that under the radio in the dash, and converting it to a storage cubby and phone charger port, like modern cars have but with a vintage look.
That means if I get an Underdash Air unit, I'll have to mount it on top of the trans hump, as close to the firewall as possible to clear the later 4spd OD shifter (that mounts further forward and toward the driver than the factory Granny 4)
Anybody have pics of an underdash AC unit mounted on the floor?

Install your A/C under the glove compartment as Chevrolet did in those years when equipped with a 4SPD.

I don't like it under the glove box, because it's too far of a stretch for me to reach it from the driver's seat. Plus, I don't want to blast the passenger's crotch with cold air!

My only concern for putting it on the hump of the tranny is will it be able to do anything but blow a/c on your feet or under the seat?

Being in GA...I understand! I am putting A/C in mine...I bought a vintage a/c package. If I had to do it again, I might do the under dash mount. It is what I remember when I was young and they look nice IMO.

My thinking is the vents can be tipped up, but also, when I make the bracket to mount it to the floor I can angle the unit up so it's at least blowing the air up above the seat bottom.

I just found a complete set-up for AC, power steering, alternator bracket, correct pulleys and all brackets in the junkyard for a Square Body truck, and grabbed it all for the K10 project. The factory brackets and pulleys aren't correct for the '62 K10, but they're COMPLETE, and factory, so they still have an OE "Correct" look to them. And more importantly, it's all there and all works together, rather than piecing it all together or buying aftermarket stuff.
I'll hunt an underdash unit at my swap meet, and while none of it will be "concours" correct, or even strictly period-correct, it'll be correct enough for the casual observer.
