Nephew's new truck

Hello,
My nephew got his first truck last night. A 68 C10, 127" wheel base, with a straight 6 and 4sp. Nothing strange or special about it. It's in the usual farm truck condition including the 3/4 tank full of 2 year old fuel. I trying to figure out what the engine is, 250 or 292. Is there any way to figure it out by marks on the engine? Here's some pics.

Thanks!

The 292 engine has the 6 inch tall lifter/side covers, the 250's are 4 inches tall. The fuel pump is behind the motor mount on a 292.

That looks like a 250 to me....

Tell your nephew that is a good find, I would drive it in heartbeat.

Yep, great find! I too would drive it, after removing those mirrors :)

Gonna be a great first truck project! That horse trailer in the background looks like it matches the truck.

Yep! The mirrors are unfortunate. The factory bases are still there, and they have goobered on what ever mirrors they could find, but the unfortunate thing has been that they then bolted another mirror onto the drivers side door thus putting non-factory holes in that door.
I thought the same thing about the horse trailer, but it looks like it started out white and then somebody rattle canned it red! LOL! The white on the truck looks like latex paint. We're hoping that we can get most of it off at the car wash. Thanks! Richard

Hey I tried to look at that truck but the guy never gave me a time to look at it after asking several times to. This was back when he listed it a couple months ago. Glad someone on here got it. If you need parts I’m real close to you

DT, I'll keep you in mind. The guy was easy to work with, he even held it over the weekend for us to get the money out of the savings account. He kinda acted like he wanted it gone.

Re: Nephew's new truck

So we started working on my nephew's truck today. Every time I glanced at this truck I thought "U-haul" because of the color. The "red" is more of an orange red like a U-haul. As I was standing there looking at the door handle I noticed a old label right above the fuel cap that said "GASOLINE". with the color and color scheme, I think it's an old U-haul truck! I don't see anything else on the truck that would indicate it was an old U-haul truck, but I'm pretty sure this is what it is.

A lot of the latex paint is coming off and I think if we used a hotsy, we'd get more off. Tomorrow we're going to start working on getting the engine running.

Thanks!
Richard

Could be. I'm sure that they probably used some of our trucks in the past. Keep us updated on the progress.
