Raleigh-Durham Area Garage or Labor to Rent
 

Odd title, odd request, odd situation. I have been building my truck on the roof of my apartment parking deck. It has been a constant roll of the dice and I just got caught and need to have the truck gone in the next couple days.

I wanted to inquire if:

1. Anyone wants to work on the truck with me on the weekends and rent garage space for the next month to maybe 6 weeks
2. Rent garage space for a couple months where I could work on it on the weekends and use electric sporadically (I would pay $500 a month)
3. Someone take over the LS swap and Brothers short bed conversion for pay (it is sans motor at the moment). I know this will cost a lot but I am willing to pay at this point, getting evicted would cost much more.

Not to hijack your thread, but I too was in a similar situation. Recently relocated to Tucson, got a house with a 3 car garage, plenty of space to do stuff, or so i thought. Speaking to others that have relocated and they too mentioned lack of space, or would like more. I reached out to a few realtors about possibly leasing a large space that we could share. Well as luck would have it when I mentioned numbers to the interested parties, they all ran. So, found another spot, has power, air, water and place to store a few vehicles. Plus the cost was affordable. Personally, best choice i ever made. I can make a mess and nobody complains. Only problem is now i have tools in 2 places, but hey what man does not need more tools. Long story short, 6 weeks is gonna turn into a few years, cause there is always some tinkering that needs to be done.

This happened to me once...Got the dreaded notice to remove the vehicle or it was going to be removed for me!

Just as my67c20 noted, your timeline will very likely be pushed out a number of times due to all manner of things that will happen.

I opted to put the project in a storage facility until I could situate myself to better manage it. That project sat in the storage facility far too long while I went on with life. It ended up costing me way more than it should have just due to the storage costs.

If you can't get on with it now, don't pay to store it.

I would look for storage w/o a long term lease just to get out of this situation. Then try to find an adequate place to complete the project, once the emergency is over. Many decisions are made too soon, when a better deal is right around the corner. Give something good a chance to happen with a little more time.

For the record, mine is month to month. I previously was looking at leasing with a 3 year term. I figured 3 years goes by pretty quick, so I was not too concerned with time. Had other not talked a big game and actually committed, the larger space would have worked out excellent. The benefit of the larger space is that it has more power, so running 220 for compressors, welders is a benefit. My long term goal is to function as a small restoration shop. Basically same concept as Wheeler Dealers, but without the limeys. Also I found mine off Craigslist. My original plan was to build a garage at my new house. When I evaluated the ROI, I determined that unless I decided to die there I would never make the money back, so giving my money to someone else just seemed more logical. Plus at a month to month, if i actually complete my project, or have a life changing event (winning lottery) I can exit at any point.

I was able to find a hot rod shop locally that is going to finish the swap and frame cut. I hate to outsource as I generally do not trust others work but realistically I was going to have a tough road navigating not having a power source and working by candlelight. It will be nice to take a break for a bit as well as I have been wrenching on the truck nearly every day for the last year. I hope they do a good job but the stuff in the shop passed the sniff test. It will be nice to have a driver once it comes out and then I can take it to friends houses on the weekend to do body work here and there in preparation for paint.

Sorry to hear that the jig is up. Your work with such limited resources has been inspiring on this end but must have been incredibly difficult on your end. One thought I had , maybe just hire the shop to do one step at a time, like cut the frame and get that back in order, before you ask them to move forward. This would safeguard you from having more than one issue that pisses you off when you look at the truck. Also it would allow you to continue looking for a garage to rent so you can do the work yourself.
