Fan Shroud for Long Water Pump?
Anyone know a good fan shroud that'll fit with a long water pump on a small block? Radiator core is supposed to be same as stock I think, about 16.5 x 28 IIRC. Memory may be off. Fan sits way too far in to reuse old shroud. 17" clutch fan.

Re: Fan Shroud for Long Water Pump?
I'm pretty sure only one shroud and water pump was used. Sounds like you need the right water pump

Re: Fan Shroud for Long Water Pump?
you might need to custom make one or cut one down as these trucks came with short pumps . possibly remove the clutch from fan and experiment with spacers or go electric

Re: Fan Shroud for Long Water Pump?
If your clutch fan has a spacer, that could be part of the problem. Far as I know they should not use a spacer, but I've seen pics where someone added one. Like Tim said, get the correct pump.
This is a long shot..... it doesn't have a shroud for a 4x4, does it? Those are a lot deeper than a shroud for a 2WD truck. |
Re: Fan Shroud for Long Water Pump?
Old shroud I'm pretty sure was right for 2wd. Still had the original 307 but unfortunately very neglected. Cylinders worn smooth and pretty bad corrosion in the water jacket. Bolt holes were pretty eatup so I just dropped in a 305 temporarily. I put almost 10k as it was, though. Went to a long water pump to prepare for the next small block which will be a lot hotter. Didn't have room with the short pump for tall valve covers (alternator too close) and it made power steering conversion easier (later pump and box). Clutch fan is heavy duty thermal type for an '84 Monte Carlo SS. Probably was part of a HD cooling package. No spacer. Same stick out I'm pretty sure. Had that on my old Monte Carlo SS (may it Rest In Peace).
Wondering if a square body shroud would work? Posted via Mobile Device |
