1967 chevy 292

Good day all. Happy Saturday.
I am putting together all covers on my crate 292. I am curious to which covers I need to put RTV on.
Side Covers-
Timing Cover-
Valve cover-
Oil Pan-

I purchased the finned side covers from 12Bolt. It states on 12Bolt site that I need to clock the HEI Distributor. What exactly does that mean??? I am sure that I am being over cautious. However, I want to do things right. The placement of the distributor is not something I am looking forward to, for some reason.
I am mechanically inclined. I just have not put in a distributor. I am confident that if I do it right the first, I will have no sweat on my brow. haha!!!

I believe the HEI must contact the new cover some place and requires you to pull the distributor and reinstall it one tooth off and then install the plug wires to the new orientation. The manufacturer should be able to tell you which way you need to go. Otherwise it will be a install it and find the interference and reinstall it process. You might try searching for photos of 292s with your style of cover installed. That may give you a clue as to distributor orientation.

I am not a fan of sealants with silicone in them and would recommend a liquid gasket maker or an Anaerobic sealer for your covers. Just my opinion having spun wrenches for a living on company equipment.
