New project
1 Attachment(s)
Picked up a cab and short bed to go on my frame. Getting ready to start stripping the frame for blast and powder coat. Starting from the ground up. Gonna be a long road.

Re: New project
Throw money at it like its going out of style, then the road wont be so long.:metal:

Always trying to save money, I bought a c-notch off eBay. Of course things didn’t quit line up right. After some debating on a return, I just grabbed the cutoff wheel and went to town. I like my version better than the plate on the outside of the frame anyway. One side done and other started but ran out of time. Got a couple ideas on a rear mount tank also. Trying to get all this lined out before powder coat.

Re: New project
Sean, I hate to say it, but that plate you removed from the outside was providing at least some level of structural rigidity. If picture #3 represents the finished product (except for finish welding), then the frame is only as strong as the thin cross-section at the top of the C-notch - and that's not very strong. Personally, I would consider adding back in some structure.

Re: New project
Thanks jocko. I just moved the plate from the outside to the inside of the frame as seen in the first picture. Same concept, different method. You can’t see the the plate inside the frame in picture 3. I think it will work but open to suggestions.

Getting closer to powder coat. Still a few things left to do. Got the rear tank mounting lined out now I’m looking at the frame mounted battery tray and air tank. I was gonna lay out my hard fuel line also so my mounting holes for clamps are there, also I don’t have my brake lines yet. Should I just do the big stuff and wait on the lines until it’s coated and paint any holes I have to drill? Trying to get everything lined out and mounted before powder.

Re: New project SixEight
2 weeks off work so i got lots of time, but not knowing what my medical bills will be, im trying to find things that wont cost anything. So i started the cowl section of my cab. Im sure ill catch some grief for cutting the rain gutter out of my cowl but it was going to have to be replaced anyway, and I want a smoother look. This truck is going to be far from stock so, no harm right? Just as i suspected, the more I dig in the more bad spots i find. all the outer rust is gone now but the inner metal under the dash is getting some spots replaced.

I’ll be keeping an eye on this. Very interested to see where you go with it all :) plus giving me ideas for when mine needs work (hoping that’s a few years away yet though!)
Keep you the good work! |

If anyone has been watching my YouTube channel you’ve seen I been working on my firewall/cowl. It’s like an onion, every layer I peel back I find more things to fix. I went deep this evening. I was just cutting out small sections to replace but that got out of hand real quick. Oh well. Do it right or not at all, it should last another 50 years or more I guess. Anyone ever use the paint or rust neutralizer from Eastwood. I want to put something all over the metal under the cowl and inside the firewall.

Update! 2 part Summit brand paint. Easy to use. We’ll see about the durability.

Waiting on my brake kit to come in. So installed my new lights and built a temporary box to blast small parts in. At least it’s a little productive. 😬

Parts look good. I have a '67 cab that looks like that. I decided to just scrap it. I don't mind a little challenge but that's more than just a little..... I applaud you for your enthusiasm and hard work...:flag: LockDoc |

Nice start to your truck
What are your plans for motor tranny combo ? |
Re: New project
I have a fairly stout 355 that’s running or 90’s big block. Prob just throwing the SB in so I can drive it. I have a 350 turbo but I’d like to find a 700 for the OD.
