Manual to automatic transmission swap
Don’t want to but the towing capacity with my NV3500 is less then the weight of my trailer so need to swap for a 4L60E. Besides the transmission, driveshaft alteration, module or computer for the transmission, what else do I need to consider. Truck is a 97 GMC regular cab short box with a 305 which I am happy with. Looked at an LS swap but don’t want the hassle that comes with it. Haven’t found much in the search on here either.

Re: Manual to automatic transmission swap
4L60E is not much better than the NV3500. I have found the biggest limitation was the clutch disc/pressure plate. I have seen way too many 4L60Es die from towing. What are you towing and how often. If it is a lot of towing I would go to a T400 or a 4l80

Not a lot of towing and not long distance or major inclines. What clutch would you recommend? Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: Manual to automatic transmission swap
Suggest you look at dual friction plate clutch systems will provide twice the clamping area giving you much more torque capability....$ around $900
IMO...stay away fro 4L60....if you must go auto, go with 4L80e but have it built for towing....and absolutely replace the input shell gear with an upgraded one....$ around $3500 plus everything else you need. :chevy::chevy::chevy: |
