What size tire can I go up to on rallies?

I am needing to put new tires on my 2000 k2500 Crewcab. It is the 8600 gvw truck. It came with 245/75/16's and I want a taller tire. Do you think I can fit a 285/75 or possibly an 85 series tire on it? It sits too low the way it is now and not sure I want to put a lift on it right now.

The 285’s are about 2 1/2 inches taller.
Fine in the back but likely not enough room in the front.
Crank your steering left and right and measure how much room you have now.
Then add another 1 1/4 inches to that for enough clearance.

most trucks in that day were leveled by cranking the Torsion Bar and running the 285/75/16

I had the same truck and ran 285/70s on H2 rims. Just barely rubbed on the filler piece for the front bumper. Just turn the bars up some..

Those aren't rallye wheels. The last truck rallye wheels were in '91 on the 1500 Suburbans and Blazer/Jimmys. These trucks all came with what GM calls "Styled Steel Wheels". I went to 265/75s and they fit fine. Then I cranked the torsion bars and removed the bumper to fender filler and ran 285/75s. It really takes a lot for them to rub at all. I've run three trucks this way, no problems. With 8" wheels I had to trim the lower corner of the bumper
