Bear Claw latches
 

I installed Bear Claw latches in the 54, and I added electric door locks so when I add the alarm it will all work together.

Now that I've been sidelined, I've had a lot of time to think. Here is the issue. The outside handles lock independently of the latches. The inside latch will not lock the Bear Claws. If I lock them electronically and the battery goes dead, I won't be able to unlock them without breaking a window and tearing into a door.

Has anyone solved this dilemma?

I like the latches and they work great, but I don't want to get locked out.

Some people hide a cable that can be reached from somewhere under the truck. You know where it is, but no-one else does.

I'm assuming you went with some sort of actuator for the bear claw lock. You should be able to easily overcome the pressure they apply with a little arm strength.

If I'm not mistaken, Orge used bicycle brake cable for this in his build.




I'm actually currently in the process of deciding whether to engineer a way to make the stock door lock activate the electric door lock, or patch the hole, and skip it altogether.

Looks like he shaved the handles.

Still looking for ideas on how to make the locks work if the power is cut.

If the actual pushing of the button activates the opening of the bear claw, then you hidden cable could just release the lock mechanism (the one that engages with the power actuator). Then it would still be locked at the pushbutton, but you could unlock it with a key, push the button in, and release the claw.

On the pic below, just attach your release cable to the little flip back and forth lock mechanism thing at the bottom of the bearclaw.
