Damn Cab And Chassis!!!!!
OK, so i got this awesome, ultra low miles, 1990 crew cab cab and chassis.
I just learned that the truck is 165 “ wheelbase and that the nice bed i got for it wont fit directly onto it!!! After reading about the 5” gap itll have, i was wondering if there wasnt a way to just move the leaf spring hangers instead?? Im in a time crunch and cant really have the truck in project right now. I was thinking id just drop the bed, swap the axle and be done. Im racing and season is here and i have NO time to devote to the truck, i put it up for sale this morning just so you know how much i mean it.... I have no time to cut and paste this **** together right now.... altough id love to run the teuck. Its sooo nice and solid and i always wanted one. Might be flat bedding it... it could be an idea but way less nicer as a daily... Help?? Thanks guys, Lead. |
Re: Damn Cab And Chassis!!!!!
I'm assuming your trying to put a dually bed on a c&c truck?...or is it a cm style bed?

Re: Damn Cab And Chassis!!!!!
Cab and Chassis duallys of this era if they have the straight frame in the back they are way too narrow for a regular dual wheel bed.
The dual rear wheels will actually fit inside a regular fleetside bed. There is one running around our town and it looks so cool! Also if the frame is straight in the back it should be real easy to move the spring hangers. You could find a regular longbed driveshaft if there is a lot of these style trucks in your area saving you some money. Assuming its reg cab. If you have a regular wide/humped one ton frame it won't look right if you just move the axle ahead imo and should section the frame. It could be done in a day easily. Flatbeds are always the easiest option for c&c odd wheelbases. |

the gap from cab to bed is not that bad in person . it sounds like a lot on paper tho .
i helped install a 8ft bed on a 135" frame c&c truck we swapped to srw and the gap was only able to be spotted by people who know the square body trucks . as said the narrow drw c&c axle in the rear tucks the tires up in real tight and the outer duel sticks out past a little of the body . but i have seen pics of guys installing the universal rubber fender flairs that are 2" wide and it works perfectly . only pic i have of the truck . if the cab was black to match the box i dont think you would know it . that was a 6" lift on a k30 with around a 37" tire. the truck has since been parted out to live on its good driveline parts to a k5 blazer so it can seat 4 and be a family riding rig . |
Re: Damn Cab And Chassis!!!!!
I don't know about your tastes Leadfoot, but I can't wait to install the fleetside bed on MY cab/chassis! I plan on utilizing
the 4" gap between the cab and bed for the 3" pipes (exhaust stacks) I'm going to run. With a custom headache rack, everything should look 'normal'. |
Re: Damn Cab And Chassis!!!!!
Ahh man..... i knew that was too nice a deal to go well dammitt!!!! And on top of things, the bed i was picking up, the guy lives like 5 hours from me instead of the 2 i understood,,(my bad) but it kills the deal fuel wise.... so i gave in my deposit and said f* it!! So im bedless too.....
Oh well.... inseen a few very cool flat beds, ill look into those maybe. Truck looks so amazing!! I got it out of hibernation yesterday, two new batteries and it fired up like a champ asking what was the task at hand today!!! LOL!!! Nothing to do my poor little guy.... cant run you like that here. Oh well, ill be back and let you all know what i do if i do something..... Thanks a lot guys!! Lead. |
Re: Damn Cab And Chassis!!!!!
pretty sure cab and chassis in a crewcab is standard length. shouldn't be a problem.

Re: Damn Cab And Chassis!!!!!
I totally missed the crew cab being mentioned. Sorry. I know in 99-06 the only 1 wheelbase for a c&c crew was a std longbed truck frame. Not sure if 73-87 was like that. But can't say I've seen longer.

Re: Damn Cab And Chassis!!!!!
as far as I know, they only made 2 crewcab frames, either 2wd or 4wd.

Re: Damn Cab And Chassis!!!!!
Errr..... so it would fit?
I ch3cked the glovebox sticker for info off someone mentionnint this on here. Thats where i found the 164.5” wheelbase info of my truck. And then, i read if it was 161 it would fit, but 164.5 would be too long. Now, if someone with actual hands on could chime in wed be golden. Until then, i still need to find one. Selling the truck w/o a bed is a little harder. I’ll need a hardcore Square guy. Still, its parked in front of the house today..... looking at it, man it looks good!!! My Suburban (2002) is pinned with the trailer in the other driveway and they look like a cool team up front LOL!!! Yeah, i was going to get the bed tomorrow so i was ready. Now i have a page opened on Pinterest with flat deck square bodies. 🤷*♂️ Never know! |
Re: Damn Cab And Chassis!!!!!
Hey, Could anybody measure from their crew cab back of cab to center of rr hub on a fleetside truck? I could at least compare? Maybe?
Thanks, Lead. |
