HRPT 2019 HotRod Power Tour

Its that time of year again boys and girls. Who's going?

I'll be in my 67 GMC P/U and my brother will be in his 1967 Dodge A100 van. We are camping it this year. I have a rooftop tent mounted over the bed to sleep in. Will post some pics soon. Need to button up a few things on the truck still.

I've done 3 long hauls and a shortie, taking a break this year. It's almost in my backyard, so I will be going Sat-Mon, then heading home Monday night. I have my vacation time planned out already this year, just wasn't anything left for a full PT.

With my garage build... I might be down to just saturday. Not taking monday off gives me two fridays off for two - 3 day weekends (we do 9 hr M-TH and 4 hr Fridays - it's stupid and I can't just make up time on friday, even if I work 13 hours friday). I can get a lot of work done on a nice 3 day weekend.

My C10 needs a bunch of crap done to it now and the Mustang hasn't really been driven much since last year's PT (I spent almost every weekend siding my house last year). I don't feel like breaking down in VA or TN on my way home with on one else rolling behind me. Charlotte is only about an hour 45 for me. I know 10 people with trailers that close to home.

First timer for me, will be doing the long haul in my 84 GMC, its plan B...were taking my buddies 40 ford sedan, however as you know stuff happens and it ended up having engine issues last month...so I had 31 days to get my truck ready for the ride. It hadn't been driven in 8 years and needed a bunch of upgrades to make it what I felt was road ready.

Did a Holley Sniper FI swap, new intake, 87 FI gas tank, Walbro 255 pump, new tires, new brakes, axle seals, pinion seal, new lock up converter, trans shift kit, vacuum pump for brakes, nut and bolt check, lubed and greased all suspension, packed wheel bearings, painted and lettered the tailgate, cleaned and buffed the entire truck. Its been a marathon, have ridden it about 250 miles in the past few days and so far, so good. Resting up this week and will head out at 5am Saturday for Charlotte ...see you there!

I will be in my 71 C 10 for the 5th long haul. 2013,2014,2015,2016 and last year I drove the 56 Bel Air. I will be in Charlotte Friday morning to pick up credential's then head up to Mooresville to the motel then down town for the VA car show being put on for anyone interested in going. Our group off of the www.Bangshift forum is doing it to help raise money for the vet's in the area. It's a great cause. :chevy:

When my boy is older. We are going to do a portion of it at least for a summer road trip.

I also want to hit Roadkill nights.

I was looking pretty good and got an alignment and tires balanced last night. Drove very nice afterwards until a caliper locked up. Better now than on the tour though.

Looks like the long haulers will have a tough time with thunder storms / rain at every location until Tuesday . :smoke:

Re: HRPT 2019 HotRod Power Tour

One of the reasons I've decided to just come up on Saturday as a spectator instead of sat-mon. It's not looking like afternoon storms either, more like an all day rain. Hope it changes, but it gon' rain!

Re: HRPT 2019 HotRod Power Tour

The way I see it, trucks are meant to be driven and get wet at times. Just take it slow and be careful out there guys. If you see me or my Blazer out there, just don't mind the dirty wheels, it looks like we are driving through 2 days of rain just to get there.

Re: HRPT 2019 HotRod Power Tour

Yep, as dirty as my truck will get in the rain, still wont be as dirty as it was sitting continuously for 8 years....not going to let rain dampen my enthusiasm.....but I am packing a rain coat! lol

Re: HRPT 2019 HotRod Power Tour

Vehicles are meant to drive rain are shine, real men drive them no matter what!
That is what the tour is all about driving your vehicle no matter what it is are how the eather is.
I just hope they don't cancel the track time at Bristol!

Re: HRPT 2019 HotRod Power Tour

I decided weeks ago my time off and garage build would be more important this year than the PT so I had planned to go up on just Saturday only (original plan was just Sat-Mon anyway). The rain just helps me feel better about my decision

My C10 has been parked outside almost the entire 23 years I've owned it. The Mustang has been through some torrential downpours on PT and other events. With me only going up on saturday, doesn't make sense to risk some asshat hydroplaning into my C10 on I-85 to be parked in the spectator lot anyway :D

Do you long haulers always follow the designated route? I知 asking because I could have a grilled lunch ready for any one who would deviate from the PT route (coming up US 27, which is a quicker way to Ft Wayne). I知 just north of Portland In. Let me know if anyone is interested- thanks

The route is only a guide line. We do other routes if need be. If a shop are some place cool is near by we make detours along the way. A lunch stop is nice though. I will ask my bunch if they are interested in it. We all will be together tomorrow night before we head to Charlotte. How many folks you look at trying to feed? There will be about 10 of us in our group.
This isn't the truck guy's though it's just friends of mine I have meet over the past 6 years doing the tour.
Thanks
