What are you guys doing for replacement seats?

I am looking at a 72 Burb 2x4, and from what I can see in pics it has no seats in it. It would be nice to find some seats that look good and fit right. If at all possible I would like to keep the 9 passenger seating arrangement as well.

Suggestions?

Welcome to the group, Deathwish...I'm new here myself, but have been reading and learning from this forum for about 5 years! This is a fantastic site and the people here are quick to offer-up suggestions, solutions and a whole lot more! I too have a '72 Suburban 9 passenger...and haven't figured out how I want to do my seats, but at least I already have three rows (center and rear are originals; front bench is out of a square body...unsure of the year...'89 maybe?). From what I have learned here, without any seats, your biggest obstacle will be finding seat brackets...as they are not reproduced by anyone. If you have any fabrication skills, this probably won't hinder you much, though? I've been looking into using more modern seats out of a '07 or newer Suburban, Yukon or Escalade...as the have built-in shoulder straps for all rear seats...but I really want to find a way to update the original seats while keeping the "nostalgic" look! Search around on the site (use the google search up top) and I'm sure you will learn a lot! Hope this helps?

Front seat is the same as a truck(minus the full back cover)

I have seen them put a 73-90 middle seat in our generation but it involves some fabrication.

Hardest thing (if you want to stay OG) is finding the rear seat brackets.

Good luck

Re: What are you guys doing for replacement seats?

I am hoping to find out more this week. I am only able to see what is there from pictures the current owner sent me. Sometimes it sucks being off shore...but the money is decent.

The pics the owner sent me show a good bit of rust on the outer quarters, door bottoms, etc.....the normal stuff. No pics of the seats or if it even has any in it.

I will be looking for patch panels, and who knows what else at this point. I know the engine is gone, but the original 4 speed is still there. Plans at teh moment are for a 350 I already have to drop in it, and attempt to get the thing running and driving down the road. Seats will be an issue....for now.

I can fabricate seat mounts for the back two rows if need be. I am hoping someone on here will have dimensions, etc for the seat mounts. Maybe some good pics of them as well. Shouldn't be too bad.

I did the original 9 pass seats. It took a while to find all the seats, but I found them. I had them recovered and it looks great.

Deathwish...there is a thread on the home page (in the Thread/Thread Starter section) called 67-72 Suburban OE seats. There is a lot of info there including pictures with measurements.

LuckyScott....that is what I am hoping to do. I would prefer to have the original style seats. The appearance would be "right" with recovered originals.

Beach-Burban...I must have looked right past it. I will go back and take a look.

I am not above taking a few truck benchs and cutting the frames down to dimension and welding them back up. It is an option....

There are a ton of seat threads on the pickup side using virtually every truck seat combo. Swapping the front will be almost the same as a pickup. It is a good resource for visual information and how to install information.
I am going to convert my 2nd row to a square body seat to have the convenience of a folding seat and the fronts are going to be a 2013 GMC buddy bucket style (If they pass the trial period).
