Tough times for the 54

I went and got my 54 out of storage a few weeks ago,I love driving it.Well stopped by for my Doctor appointment and when I came up,a woman had backed in to side side,She was waiting for me and gave me her insurance info.So couple days latter I went to body shop to see what they could do,then went to glass shop and told them I had a little leak in the windshield,no problem. As I went inside to talk with my friend, bam ,guy ran into the other side of the 54.Damage was minor but both rear fenders got hit,Picking truck up from body shop this morning

Why is it that the beautiful trucks get hit and the junkers go about their business with never a problem.

man, that is some bad luck for the old truck.
was it a technology type "back up camera so don't look behind or in the mirrors" kinda collision or an actual "awe man, I didn't think I was that close, sorry" kinda collision, or a "I thought I felt a bump so I give it a shot of gas just to make sure" kinda deal. it's amazing how many drivers can manage to hit a stationary object while backing up. I think we should go back to the old days where the parking lots had slightly angled spots where you could drive in a little easier, especially with a full sized truck, and then back out easier as well. less back and forth. the engineers should also understand people don't all drive a skateboard sized car. the costco lot engineer has it right.
end of rant, sorry. got a scratch on my truck this week in a parking lot. very minor but very preventable as well. of course nobody left a sorry note or anything. you are very lucky the person who hit your truck actually stuck around. hope you can get it fixed to your satisfaction in a timely fashion

That really sucks. I hope it gets fixed right.

For those who don't know what Hogfarm's truck looks like. It is one of the nicest but most understated 54 3100's in the country.
Smugmug didn't seem to work so I'll try this.

My question is how in the heck does someone walk or drive by one of these trucks and not immediately notice it much less drive into it!!!!! It just kills me!!!!

Probably about like my wife, she has no depth perception and has never been good at backing up. We have a cherry tree out on the other side of the driveway that she nearly beat to death with the back bumper of the car whe was driving then.

I hope this doesn't hurt as much as it could. It's a truly beautiful truck and with luck the insurance companies will pay enough to get the damage repaired properly. But it really doesn't feel good to put in all the work to make it look gorgeous only to have someone else damage it.

I wish you luck getting it back to it's previous condition.

Re: Tough times for the 54

My FIRST DRIVE EVER with my newly finished 1931 Ford PU I approached a stop sign and the car behind skidded up behind me, tires screeching. The very next intersection a guy in a giant pickup truck ran straight through the stop sign - I saw him coming and watched as he was turned backwards at the wheel talking to someone in the back seat. Had I not slowed he would have t-boned me. Later I parked well out in a parking lot and watched as an elderly lady mysteriously backed away from a coffee kiosk and all the way across the parking lot taking slo-mo dead aim on my truck.

It’s cause they’re scared to hit something so rusty and beat up. Also worth noting that no one will park next to me either.
