Re: For Grumpy
And it's most likely getting a 5.3 . Took my mom (85) to buy a new car today to tow behind the motor home. Seems the Yukon she has with 64k on it has a rotted out frame . So I got a freebie.

Re: For Grumpy
Patina ain't nothin' but paint with the letters moved around... and an extra 'a' to give a feminine Latin touch.

Re: For Grumpy
Paint job looks great, I had to go out and look to see if mine was still here, It's the same color as mine that I just got back last week. I like the idea of painting the black in the wheel wells.

Back to this thread . I'm not sure how I became the anti patina flag waving guy . Maybe it's because I see guys drop $$$ into a rusty truck with a junk yard LS and then bolt $$$$ of suspension to a rusty frame ? Hey , it's your truck do it any way you want , I spent most of my life making things look new so that's my thing . Do whatever you want to yours , I just have fun poking the bear .... |
Re: For Grumpy
I've been speaking out on going out of the way for patina since the fad started. Yet, "runs good needs paint" has been my preference forever, out of natural economic necessity and common sense. But that's only until everything else is done mechanically and until there's money for cosmetics. What always bugged me since I've been driving were the guys who went right at the cosmetics ahead of mechanics. You know, "chrome won't get you home", and neither will shiny paint. Most just had old paint. I like faded paint like I love faded jeans and t-shirts. In HS I drove a '56 bug I dragged out of the woods. While others ran out and put scoops, flared fenders, and Cragars with adapters I restored mine and ran red oxide. I built a strong engine/later wider full-synchro transaxle using bus nose cone to clear body, Koni shocks and swap bars, Pirelli radials slightly wider, full gauges (except fuel). It was a poor man's Porche but to everyone else it was an old bug. When I tore the transmission up and was doing the upgraded one, everyone was asking "Why are you fixing it?". Then once I got out of HS I painted it Mercedes Blue and it was, "Hey, that's a nice bug. When did you get it?". Some people have no vision. I went through this with my vehicles for years. Now we have people ruining good paint to have a bad paint job. Go figure.
Here's one for ya Grumpy  My buddy Mark Wenner |

Re: For Grumpy
Had an issue with bolt kits I purchased for the bed. Actually the fender bolts I ordered them unpolished they came polished as did all the floor hardware . Not a big deal but there were no fender washers included. Had to run around looking for them in stainless. Found them at an ACE hardware wasnt cheap as there are 24 of them. I have an inquiry with who I ordered them from so we'll have to wait and see if they make good .
On a good note, I ordered the bed strips from Eklers during their 30 off sale. They came very quickly and they have made in USA all over them . |
