Look what I did
 

I started to post on this and it all disappeared. So here goes again

After loosing such a gargantuan glovebox to the guys at Vintage Aire, I decided to at least provide some room for the standard truck and car junk.

So I built this. It's a tight friction fit and is removable should the need arise. I also have placed 12vdc electrical quick disconnects to facilitate removal. There are 2 12vdc outlets on the sloped front of the console. One a standard power outlet and the other a 2 place 2.1 ma USB charger.

My dog, a 70 pound Airedale, (Hot Rod), my wife, no weight allowed for disclosure, (Darlene), and I are leaving tomorrow on a six day road trip. I figured you can never have too many drink holders so I put 2 on the top of the console. I also installed the Morris 3 point restraints. Fairly easy. I took the seat out to do something else and it made the seatbelt install really easy. I really wanted to keep this truck as original as possible, but I figured being dead because I cut a corner on safety probably wasn't under the "smarts list". These things are expensive but very good quality.

Model away. I made a pattern out of picture matting foam board. I used 5/8" plywood and it required no framework as the plywood was more than enough. I used 2" sheetrock screws to fasten. Didn't use glue and you can stand on this thing! The glove box bottom has to be angled to conform to the "tunnel". I didn't catch that at first and couldn't understand why the darn thing wouldn't sit level! Duh!!

Nice job. Some times I wish I had an automatice so I could do something simular. I can't even use the cup holders in the ash tray. Would be able to shift in to 3rd. Na who am I kidding I love my manual.

Great looking work, but does it allow you heater duct to work?
Reason I ask is I wrestled with this making one for mine, and couldn’t figure out how to get the air out from underneath.

Well, we took ol' Yeller on our 6 day road trip. Console worked great. I had no problem with blocking the floor vent for heat. Even though I probably won't ever need/use it here in southwest Florida, there was no blockage of any of the venting. This may also be because the venting was somewhat changed during the install of the Vintage Air exact fit kit. Building these for sale would be cost prohibitive as I don't have a sewing machine and the shop I used wanted $300 for covering. I can send foam board patterns if anyone wants them. Easy to put together. Then maybe you can find a cheaper upholstery shop in your locale. And then you can modify it as you want as well. (Just actual postage and a couple bucks for the foam board). Let me know.

Your trip sounds fun and this console looks great! Can you tell us more? Where did you get the cup holder inserts, and how does the upholstery work in the area of the charger outlets? Is there some sort of cut in the fabric and the edge of the chargers is pushed in to hold the fabric down the same way the cup holders are done? How does the hinge work or where did you get the hinge? It looks like it's holding the lid up, so I wonder if it is a special hinge.

Got the cup holder inserts from summit. They’ve got two or three different diameter cup holders. Your choice. Holes need to be larger than cup holders. Just fabric over the holes. Cut through the fabric covering the holes like a pizza. Then push the holders into the holes. Should snug up nicely. Got the dual power and USB charger on Amazon. Did the same thing with those holes. Used just a standard hinge from Home Depot. Just make sure the lid can open w/o hitting the underside of the dash. I got lucky. Mine is just tight enough for it to friction fit under the dash.
