Bed to bedside fixings
Ive just about completed the fitting of my new bed in my 62 stepside and wanted to ask one last question before I go ahead and do this.
Am I correct to say I need to drill through the wood on the very outer fixings in order to fix down the bedsides to the timber and the supports underneath? |

Yes the edge of the wood that runs under the angles on each side of the bed.

There are specific points along the perimeter angle strip where the cross sills are located and that the carriage bolts make the attachment to the bed.
I just got back from spending a couple of weeks in Scotland. |

...also the reinforcement strips attach to the perimeter angle strips.
We stayed in Edinburgh and made our way back and forth to the Isle of Skye and then Islay. I contributed heavily to the local Whisky commerce. I had to leave my purchases in Bowmore and hire scotchwhiskyauction.com to ship it to the US for me. LOL |

I hope you weren't the one who bought the £3000 bottle in the local Spar (7-11) in Bowmore!
I had a project to replace the 11KV switchboard in the small Power Station at Bowmore. Had a team over there for the better part of a year. We also contributed heavily to the whisky consumption during that period. I hope you gave Laphroig a chance. Its not to everyone's taste but I do like it! |

Ah, that would be an incredible job stay over for me. Ha, no, I didn't buy anything at Bowmore this time around. Oh, yes, I'm a registered FOL, and the Triple Wood, PX, and Cairdeas Fino are some of my everyday favs. I ended up with a lot of festival releases and several Port Charlotte single casks from Bruichladdich.
If you can, do a test fitting of the bedwood with the strips in place, then mark and drill, and then repeat the test fitting to confirm. This is what I do, especially this last build (albeit a fleetside), but I had to fabricate a new perimeter strip since I raised the bed floor an inch. |

One of my engineers who was on site most of the year, seldom drunk whisky when he started the job. By the time he came home we reckon hed spent at least £3K on bottles just to take home as investments, never mind what he had bought to drink!
I had to look FOL up - Doh! I took a liking for it years ago when as an apprentice I had to work in the distillery for a couple of days. Brought a bottle back home and never looked back. Ive been up in Elgin a lot lately as we have a site up there and the hotel Ive been staying has the biggest collection of whisky Ive ever seen, including some shots for £100 a nip! Ive not got too involved as it too expensive drinking in places like these. I must say, as much as I love the produce of Scotland, Im also very keen on Bourbon. When I was in Texas year before last I was introduced to TX. Really liked it but I just cant get it over here. Of Course I can get Jack and Jim and I can get Wild Turkey (which I actually really like) and some Knob Creek but thats really about it. Mind you probably a good thing I cant get it, Id only drink it and my doctor would only complain! Anyway, back to the bed! Ive actually got the bed fitted all but these last fixings, so it will be a case of drilling in place. Hopefully that wont be an issue. |
