Fitting Hood
We are fitting the hood on my 1953 Chevy 3100. The lower rear corners of the hood do not go back into the rear corners of the indentation on the cowl (the hood corner needs to go back another 3/4"). We have lowered the core support (1/2") and raised the cab (1/2") and it is still not back in the rear corners. Hood fits tight on the top of the cowl and the gap between the cowl and rear edge of the hood is about 1/8" to 3/16".
What are we doing wrong? Thanks. Wade |
Re: Fitting Hood
set the hood to the cowl...then move everything else around to match it...
Theres a bunch of howtos on panel alignment on here some pics might help |
Re: Fitting Hood
Without actually seeing it I'll suggest the possibility that your cab isn't set quite level front to rear. If the cab tilts down in front that will open a gap at the bottom of the hood. If your cab tilts up in front that will open a gap at the top of the hood.

Re: Fitting Hood
I have done this.Like I have said before remove the springs, that way you are not fighting them, adjust hood (take 2 guys) then install springs, worked perfect for me

Re: Fitting Hood
Thanks for the input guys. We do have the hood springs disconnected. The cab appears to be level, so maybe I should raise the front of the cab a bit. I will try removing the core support and see if the hood will sit in the right place on the cowl with nothing else attached.

Re: Fitting Hood
I have the instructions from the factory service manual saved in this photobucket album
https://s173.photobucket.com/user/mr...%20info?page=1 I think the second and third images are the distance your cab floor has to be off the stock frame and then the next ones are the pages from the service manual on how to adjust the hood. |
