Driveshaft Confusion.
 

My carrier bearing bracket on my 1969 gmc lwb snapped so I pulled the drive shaft to replace it and the bearing and the u-joints while it was out. But every parts store is showing a different type of bearing for my truck. None of them will fit or they are the wrong bracket type. The photo attached is my drive shaft. Any advice on where to find the bearing. A part number? Is this my original drive shaft? I think it is an HD shaft that came with big black th400 trucks. My truck was I6/column manual to 350/350 swapped by a PO.

It looks like you have a 3/4 ton or leaf spring drive shaft. Is your truck either one? (GMC's. Were usually leafs.). The half ton shafts don't have the splined section. The first photo shows the 1/2 ton coil spring drive shaft. The part numbers for these over the years have changed many times and there are errors out there and where there used to be several numbers one for each option now there is one that "should" fit.
Does your mount look like the one in the link refered to as an HD shaft?
I converted my 1/2 ton coil spring Burban to the splined rear shaft with an aftermarket billet carrier bearing. You may be able to use the aftermarket carrier with your current drive shaft.

My truck has rear leafs. But it also has the brackets for coil trailing arms on the crossmember. I have a bracket off of a parts truck for what is referred to as the “HD” bearing in the other post. And my drive shaft looks identical to the other posts photo. Would it be possible for me to just mount the other bracket to my crossmember and use that style of carrier instead of trying to track down an original 3/4 ton/ leaf spring clearing bearing.

Do you have a driveshaft shop near you? I would skip the parts store and head to a dedicated driveshaft shop with this and they should have what you need.

I believe that will work. I would take the front half of the shaft with you to make sure that everything is the right size.

Bozly has some good advice. They should have a solution for you. I went to a local driveline shop for my conversion.

Thanks for the advice. The closest shop that would even touch a bearing this old is an hour away. I think I will try to convert it first and see how that goes. I’ll post an update tomorrow when I pick up the parts.

Sorry for the delay fellas. I went to Napa got the deluxe style bearings and used a parts truck bracket and so far everything is working great. It was really simple. Thanks for all the help.
