Hi everyone. This may be my first post, but I have been scouring the threads on here. What an awesome forum. This is what it's all about, people with a common interest/hobby helping each other.
Recently I ended up at the right place, right time. I managed to score a very fair deal on a 79 C30 Dually, Regular Cab, 454, Turbo 400, 4:10's, basically been in one family locally since new. Really a pretty solid truck. It was originally dark green inside and out, but somewhere along the line they painted it white.
Anyway, getting to my question, I could have sworn that I read on this forum that if you had dual gas tanks that they would have been the 16 gallon ones. I laid under the truck today and measured the length and they're about 52" long. Were the one tons the exception to the rule? Was it pretty common on these camper specials to get a pair of 20 gallon tanks?
Thanks in advance....

Don

Welcome aboard Don. That's a lovely Dually ya got there.

Just about everything you could hope to know about your truck's factory options can be found here at the GM Heritage Center. Scroll down to page 141 for fuel tank specs... It appears yours would come stock with 20 gallon tanks.

Edit: For reference, your truck is referred to as a CC30903 in the info sheets. On page 141 it lists 1 20 gallon tank as standard, and an additional 20 gallon tank as optional for your rig...

Nice truck.

General rule is long beds got 20 gallon and short beds got 16. But 16 gallon have been found on long beds. Weight class wasn't a determining factor. My 75 C10 came with dual 20s.

Don't know if they are still made but there used to be aftermarket tanks for long beds in the 30 gallon size.

Thanks to all for the welcome and response. ShortHaul, thanks for the link to some great reference material. Very helpful. I was pretty sure I wasn't halucenating and that they were 20's, but it never hurts to double check.
