1973-1979 Tachometer?
2 Attachment(s)
I am wanting to install the factory style tach in the fuel gauge location and place the fuel gauge in the brake lite location has anybody else done this conversion?
Not really wanting to buy the used parts off of ebay or ? I have read to many stories of used or NEW NOS ones not working. So I plan to go with a repop kit like LMC shows in the photo. |

Indicator lights. Not sure which ones on your application, but some possibilities are brake, seat belt, 4x4....

Re: 1973-1979 Tachometer?
Besides the gauges, you will also need a different printed circuit and white plastic housing to accommodate the tach and fuel gauge. The tach also uses a stand alone harness that is not part of the printed circuit. The large window is for indicator lights as was mentioned. The older '73/'74 tachs did not have an indicator light window, the brake light indicator with tach was in the speedometer. The information at this link should help answer some of your questions as the gauges and clusters changed through the years.
http://www.73-87.com/7387garage/inte...achometers.htm Since you already have gauges it will be a direct plug in to your cab harness with the correct printed cluster circuit. |
Re: 1973-1979 Tachometer?
I bought the same gauges for a cluster I pulled from an 89 Suburban with the idea of putting it in my 75. Plan got put on hold due to buying 80 acres and moving. The 89 cluster had a red plate for Brakes and Seat Belts behind the gas gauge. Was thinking of re-purposing the Seat Belt side into a Hot or Oil idiot light backup to the gauges. There are enough cluster pins to have both gauges and some idiot lights and IIRC, the 89 Suburban had 4-wheel drive so every possible light socket had a circuit trace to it. I think the pair behind the speedo was 4-wheel drive and Check Engine.
